Meet Jakarri Hunt of The Fat Vegan in Huntington Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jakarri Hunt.

Jakarri, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
The Fat Vegan started in 2015, prior to that I would just cater family events. And would people would try the food they couldn’t believe that it was Vegan. I had another business that I put to the side because I believed that I could really do some good in the Vegan world.

Most of the restaurants I would go eat at were overpriced and underwhelming, so I knew all I had to do was get people to try the food and they’d be hooked. So I started delivering and meal prepping and from there I started doing pop up events, and that’s how and where we are at today.

Has it been a smooth road?
There have been many obstacles, from not having enough help, to equipment not working, logistical problems. Any problem you can think may arise in the food industry has probably happened. But it doesn’t stop the passion for the food industry.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Fat Vegan – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are a vegan food company. I am the owner/chef. We specialize in making tastebuds go crazy, with delicious vegan food. We are known for our fried cauliflower. our various versions of mac n cheese, buffalo chik’n fries & wings, fried vegan shrimp and our tacos. If you ask other people they would probably name completely different dishes.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I like everything about L.A I was born and raised in L.A County. I love various cultures and people you can come across. It’s great for a foodie like myself. The one thing I dislike is the homeless problem, this is an issue that really needs to be addressed. If the local government or our state doesn’t want to do anything maybe, we the people should take up coming up with some solutions.
