Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaime Geffen.
Jaime, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My introduction to my Special Event & Production career was at Sony Pictures Television, immediately following college. It was quite exciting to work on a studio lot and have the opportunity to work on television show events for Seinfeld, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, King of Queens and so many more.
I spent 9 successful years at Sony before launching my own company, YourBASH! With a business partner in 2010. His background was also in the studio business, as he spent much of his early career at FOX Television with a similar job as myself. We were lucky enough to launch our business working on the American Idol franchise and then grew into a full-service event production firm.
After many years of great events, and learning experiences with YourBASH! it was time for me to join the ranks of Woman Business Owner. GEFFEN EVENTS INC. launched in February of 2017 and is considered one of the leading experiential design and production firm in Los Angeles. We tailor our approach to each client, creating cutting-edge, one-of-a-kind experiences and Instagrammable moments.
In addition to GEFFEN EVENTS, I am a proud mother, wife and competitive equestrian. All of which contribute to who I am as a person, and to which I attribute much of my success in my work life. I always strive to be innovative in my design when producing events while maintaining a professional and unique style in the theme of each event.
My crazy busy and fun life comes out in my work style and creative moments and my new healthy lifestyle plays a major role in balancing it all. I consider myself an entrepreneur and I am so proud of what I created with GEFFEN EVENTS INC.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Having your own business definitely has its challenges and emotional roller coasters.
When I first launched GEFFEN EVENTS INC. I wanted to rebrand myself and my company and make it different than my previous company. My former company, in my mind, had grown stale and veered away from who I was as a person and what I knew I could bring my clients.
To me, that meant, going back to my roots and learning the business again with a fresh and positive perspective. I was pleased to move forward with some of the same clients and even more pleased to win back some former clients.
The biggest obstacle was figuring out how to get out there and sell what I wanted to sell and create fresh ideas. And that is just what I did!
Please tell us about Geffen Events Inc.
Having been on the client side of event production at Sony Pictures Television, I knew what I always looked for in a partnership with a production firm. I understood the reality of a budget, the limitations of a brand/ logo and ALWAYS wanting to present the freshest ideas. I always work to maintain the integrity of my event budgets, while still ensuring a beautiful and exciting event. I pride myself on being timely with deadlines and working to produce each event under budget and exceed expectations.
GEFFEN EVENTS INC. is lucky to work with a variety of clients from studios, to large corporations, to high profile charities and also more personal events like weddings, bar & bat mitzvahs and birthday bashes. Because of this diversity, we are constantly studying trends and styles in all genres. This truly sets us apart from our competitors who may be more focused on one type of event or another.
I am most proud of the personal attention I am able to provide to my clients. When someone hires GEFFEN EVENTS INC. for an event, they want the principle involved in the process from start to execution. It is important to me to be at all of the meetings, participate in all of the calls, know each of the vendors, know the clients personally to ensure we meet their expectations and most importantly, be there for their events. Personal attention to detail is very important to me and I trust my clients feel that on event day when we open the doors, and the event begins.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My childhood consisted mostly of horses, horses, and more horses. I grew up with a grandmother who rode horses, a mother who was fiercely competitive as both a junior and an amateur and I started riding at the young age of 3. So many of my memories are with horses and traveling for horse shows on the weekends.
I have met so many people from that time in my life and grown up with a great sense of respect for people and animals. It also taught me responsibility and maturity. I was to take care of my own pony and later, horse and make sure it was ridden, fed and well taken care of before anything else. Horses came back into my life recently as an adult, once I got married, started a family, and my career was settled
I am now successfully competing on a national level as an amateur and enjoying every minute of it… my husband, son, and parents are huge supporters, which is the cherry on top. I have enjoyed meeting new clients through this sport as well, and been able to produce great events for them in their personal lives. It’s fantastic when worlds collide!
