Meet Jaime Black

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaime Black.

Hi Jaime, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am a Musician, Ritualist, Martial Artist, Tarot Reader. I practice Yoga and am a Spiritual Life Coach with a focus on personal empowerment. I also have a podcast (Silverlake Priestess Podcast). My purpose is to empower people to listen to their inner wisdom to connect with their Sacred Purpose and to create an empowered life full of meaning and purpose. I have been playing music and practicing martial arts all of my life and it was there that I began my spiritual practice as well. I got my black belt at the age of 12. I played the flute very seriously all of my young life until I moved to LA and then I picked up the guitar. My younger brother suffered a life-threatening accident when I was 22 and it changed me completely. It broke me open Spiritually, activated my psychic abilities, and woke me up to my purpose. And put me on a path of learning ways that could heal him. I learned to read the Tarot, I studied and practiced different types of Yoga, Meditation, Crystal Healing, Witchcraft, and it was through the Spiritual working and that I started to write music. I heard it in my dreams. Started writing songs and performing them in clubs in LA.

Then pretty early on, I linked my performances with the Full Moons. And started offering Tarot readings from other readers at my shows. People could light candles and set intentions. And the music was my offering to Spirit. I became a certified yoga teacher, I started playing live music with live drums and guitar and I would sing for yoga classes and meditations. Then I became a certified life coach to support my tarot reading and began leading women’s circles where I combined all of my experience to offer deep spiritual experiences with music. The name of my Spiritual Business is called Silverlake Priestess. And my music is self-titled Jaime Black. I offer Tarot Reading, Life Coaching, red tents, women’s circles, Priestess trainings, Tarot Classes, Moon Rituals which include Sound Baths with live music (all inclusive), and Women’s Retreats & Priestess Pilgrimages to Avalon. Just before a Red Tent Priestess Activation Training I offered here in Los Angeles, I decided to start a podcast and interview all the different women who would also be teaching at the workshop and I loved it so much it became the main focus of my show. It did start very female focused-just like my business, I was interviewing women who identified as Priestesses, Witches, Psychics, Astrologers, Mediums, Artists and Musicians who did Spiritual work and had also created their own businesses around those offerings – which I refer to as our Sacred Purpose.

I have since opened up to interviewing men on the show as well who are doing similar work. And my group Sound Bath Moon Rituals are for everyone. (I do teach Martial Arts for women at a place called Foxy and Fierce in Los Angeles) I’m a California native, came to LA before I turned 20. It’s definitely my home. I became who I am now growing up in this city. All of my performances whether at a music venue or a festival include opportunities for deep personal experience/activation/healing, and all of my training and workshops include live music. I play guitar, frame drum, and sing, and I have a cello player, violinist, and a drummer/ keyboardist. What’s most important to me in life is listening to my intuition, experiencing honest authentic relationships, connecting with the world around me, and serving my Sacred Purpose by using the gifts given to me to be a better person and help to lift up those I come in contact with. I believe that we all have messages for each other. That we all have a purpose. That every single one of us matters. And we are all here together at the time we are here on this planet for a reason. And all of my offerings are in service of this belief.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being an independent artist (musician) in LA is not an easy ride. We work full time in bars, restaurants, assistant jobs and are most of the time sooo exhausted at the end to give enough time and energy to our own creative projects. And the years go by and our art/music suffers. This was the biggest struggle for me. I could never get ahead, I would work a ton, go on tour to England, then come back broke, and have to start all over again, Spending most of my time waitressing. At some point, I just keep sustaining injuries that either keep me from work or kept me from playing my guitar. One time I even sustained blisters on my vocal chords and had to stop singing and working for months while I healed, and it destroyed my voice for a couple of years.

Eventually, I realized this was a cycle that was never going to end. And I figured there has to be a way to survive off of my gifts. So I asked myself, what are the things that people come to me for. That was an easy answer – Spiritual Knowledge, Advice, Readings, Astrology, personal empowerment, but how to survive off of it? There was no way to know unless jumped all the way in. So I did. I started studying business, marketing, social media, I had already some for my music and so I just started applying all of that to a spiritual business. The hardest part is believing in yourself. You have to recommit again and again and again. You have to be willing to fall off the horse, to fail, to be fully exposed, and fail-did I say that already. And after that, you get back up and try again.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Musician, a Spiritual Teacher, Educator, Ritualist. I’m known for my Ethereal Music and my Full Moon Shows. I offer Moon Circles and Sound Bath Moon Rituals. The Moon Circles are for female identifying folks, and the Sound Bath Moon Rituals have my live band and include ritual ceremony – with fire, candle lighting, and of course the Sound Bath. What sets me apart as a musician is that I am a Priestess and Spiritual Teacher. So I’m offering ceremony At my shows. There is always a discussion on the astrology of the evening. There is always opportunity for personal reflection and an opportunity to let something go. (I bring my cauldrons to the shows and light them on fire so people can write down what no longer serves them and drop into the fire.), I’m recently most proud of the Ritual Sound Baths. It’s a combination or everything I do – and it’s powerful for the people who attend. My band and I recently recorded a live album called Season of the Witch – which is all of the music we play at the ritual sound baths. I’m happy to have an album that sounds exactly the way we do live.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love LA. I love the energy here. The fire, the creativity, the pulse. People can be anyone they want to hear. I have met the most amazing people here. People have had to believe in their dream enough to get here. And only people who love that life stay. There is no age barrier here. Most people are not getting married and having kids. They are creating and creating and creating. It’s incredibly spiritual. People are awake, conscious, present. There’s a focus on personal growth and connecting with others. I also love the nature!! It’s our best kept secret. The mountains, the trees, the ocean, the desert, the forest, the waterfalls. And the people. That’s what makes it. The artists, the dreamers, the doers. People really live their dreams here. If they don’t find what they came here for, they just create it. And I’m here to support that 100%.
