Today we’d like to introduce you to Jai Gray.
Jai, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have been working as a full-time teacher for 11 years. When I would explain my job to other people, I didn’t feel the excitement and passion that I once had in that industry.
Eventually, my youngest child would move to Kansas, and I knew then that it was time to do something that I desired in my life. In 2018, I quit my job as a teacher and began to fully pursue my career as a full-time actress. In addition to performing, I also started my own business for the substance abuse population.
Has it been a smooth road?
Smooth Road? Ha! Of course not! Since the age of 18, I have always worked a 9 to 5 job. I had my children at a young age, so all I knew was to protect and provide for them. My mindset was that as a single mother, you have to sacrifice your dreams so your children can have theirs.
On March 1, 2018, I was happy with my decision but also thinking, “How am I going to pay my bills?” There are so many horror stories out there in the entertainment industry as far as stability goes and also dealing with people around me saying things like, “You quit a full-time job to do acting?” it can become very stressful.
However, it only made me stronger and made me want it, even more, to prove the doubters wrong.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Stripes That Heal story. Tell us more about the business.
Stripes That Heal is an agency devoted to helping individuals with substance abuse, mental health issues, and anger issues.
I specialize in stress and anger management issues, coping skills, a 12 step program, promote education and career building tips, build self-confidence and provide ways to build a strong relationship with other people.
I am proud that my agency is providing clients with a second chance in life through healing for him/her and bringing unity within his/her family.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
As far as my acting career goes, I see myself with a couple of national commercials under my belt and a feature film or two! As far as my agency goes, I see myself opening a behavioral health clinic working with those of all ages who struggle with mental health illness.
