Meet Jade Mainade of Jade Mainade in Lincoln Hieghts

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jade Mainade.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jade. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I fell into photography by chance. I was living in Miami and got a little shitty point and shoot digital camera. During that time I was in school for nutrition and was feeling a bit aimless with my life. I started to play around with the camera for fun and that led me to start shooting my friends. Shortly after that I met a fine artist by chance as well and he introduced me into the art world. He put me into my first show and also gave me a big ego.

I, of course, dropped out of college to be an “artist”. I started to become humble when I moved to LA to become a “successful photographer” and quickly realized the amount of time and work it would take to even get to a starting point which I feel I am at now. I have been doing it for about three years and it’s been the only thing getting me through my hard times and my good times.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has most definitely not been a smooth road. Taking the jump into pursuing something that is not consistent or stable in any way definitely makes you get creative when trying to survive. But, I think that that can relate to most things in life.

I think getting used to the idea that things take time has been a struggle for me. I used to put pressure on myself to be somewhere or be someone before I was ready or had done the footwork. Understanding that we are something as we are now, and who we are now is preparing us for the things we want to achieve in the future.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a photographer and I like to shoot people. Everyone is special in their own way, I see my work exploring intimacy and vulnerabilities. Those are the feelings I try to focus on in my work.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
LA provided me with the opportunity to learn and expand with limitless resources to create and learn as far as the photo and film industry.
