Meet Jade Dasaad of J Bee Boutique

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jade Dasaad,

Jade, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started J Bee on a whim at a store in Glendale. I found a tiny space for lease and didn’t think anyone would take the risk to rent to someone with zero experience in the fashion or retail industry.

To my surprise, the landlord (who I am forever grateful for!) agreed to lease to me. I was working at a restaurant at the time and picked up a second restaurant gig not knowing how I would ever afford to get a store open. I worked around the clock and managed to be up and running within one month! I had never worked in retail or fashion myself but have always loved fashion but mostly love helping other women look and feel their best!

I learned A LOT at my first location and outgrew it shortly after. I partnered with my best friend, Marissa Sanchez, to open Honey by J Bee in Glendora the following year and soon after that moved my original location in Glendale to South Pasadena. We’ve built an amazing following with the help of social media, particularly Instagram, and also sell online.

It’s amazing what you can do with a little hard work and faith. It’s still a work in progress, and this is only the beginning, but I’m definitely grateful for all of the lessons & relationships we’ve made so far.

Has it been a smooth road?
It’s DEFINITELY been a struggle and a sacrifice. Not having any experience in retail, I had to teach myself the ins and outs of the business. Being a small startup with no major financial backing, I also had to learn on a budget which means doing everything myself.

From buying, merchandising, marketing, managing employees… It’s hard not to compare myself to other companies in such a competitive industry. You have to find where you fit in and what works for your audience which can take time and patience! There isn’t anyone above you giving you a list of things to do that will guarantee you a paycheck at the end of the month! It’s up to you to stay motivated and accountable.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the J Bee Boutique story. Tell us more about the business.
J Bee is a women’s clothing store. Our demographic is mostly women in the age range anywhere from 18-45. We’re contemporary, feminine, chic, yet affordable. We keep up with the latest trends but in an effortless way that anyone can feel comfortable in.

We’re known for our weekly new arrivals. They tend to go fast, and we choose to stock small amounts to keep it unique! As a company, we’re most proud of our customer service. We want anyone to be able to walk into our stores and feel like they’re getting a high-end experience without the high-end bill. From our sales associates to the decor, music, and ambiance.. we want our customers to feel welcomed and at home.

Our team is always here to make customers feel comfortable and never intimidated. We know our customers have the choice to shop anywhere, and we value the customers that choose to shop with us! We want everyone that walks through our doors to leave looking their best on any budget!

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Our industry is constantly evolving, especially with the influence of social media. We’re hoping to be able to keep up with the evolution of e-commerce but would also like to see brick & mortars that cater to a niche survive too!
