Meet Jaclyn Szabo of Jaclyn Szabo Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaclyn Szabo.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up in an artistic household with both my mother and sister in the arts. I also come from a family full of entrepreneurs and business owners. Growing up I was always documenting my family and friends and have always been very observant. After taking my first black and white photography course I knew I wanted to make photography a full-time job and passion! I have my Bachelors Degree in Commercial Photography from Brooks Institute. Just a few months after graduating I photographed my first wedding and was hooked. I love being able to tell my client’s stories and mix that with my creativity and the natural emotion of the day.

I now specialize in weddings and portraits. I shoot everything from small courthouse weddings to epic elopements and larger scale weddings. My goal is to create a long term relationship with my clients that will take them from engagement photos to family photos once they have started a family. I do also photograph creative portraits for musicians and models as well and treat everyone I photograph with a fresh perspective.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Being a full-time photographer does not come without struggle. There are months where I am swamped with work and struggle to stay on top of my editing and there are times when I am worrying about where the next paycheck will come from. So many people think that being a photographer must be such an easy job when in fact it is really difficult at times.

Taking the photographs is such a small part of owning a photography business, you are dealing with book keeping, tons of computer work, continuing your education, marketing etc. Not to mention there are a ton of photographers in Los Angeles… I recently re-located from Ventura, Ca a much smaller community so I have been trying to get my name out in LA more.

Jaclyn Szabo Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a photographer of Modern and Authentic portraits and weddings. I photograph everything from engagements, weddings, family portraits and creative portraits.

For me, the experience I give my clients is just as important as the photographs themselves. I really want to create an environment that is warm and inviting. I want my clients to feel like we are friends and I truly want to take the time to get to know them.

From there I want to tell their story in a way that is authentic and timeless so they can look back on these photographs as heirlooms from an important milestone in their lives.

What sets me apart is my own unique style and perspective. I do not want to mimic other photographers, I do not slab on filters to my photos. I try to shoot the way I see things, maybe making them look a little more epic of course but the goal is to make things look natural.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success as being overall happy with your life. For me having a love in my life, family, friends makes me happy. With my photography, I want to reflect that love and bring it out in others and help them remember some of the amazing moments in their lives. Also being able to be comfortable financially is always a wonderful thing and I won’t pretend that it is not a factor.
