Meet Jaclyn Guggenmos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaclyn Guggenmos.

Jaclyn, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
When I graduated high school, I was intent on becoming a makeup artist. I threw myself into a trade school full time. During that time, I was also set on becoming healthier and more active. I was never into sports or fitness growing up and I struggled with my weight as a child. I started out doing workout videos at home because I was too intimidated by the thought of going to a gym. Eventually, I realized how much I loved lifting weights and I wanted to be able to do more, so I finally took the plunge at got myself a gym membership. I was terrified of having to work out in front of other people, fearing I would be judged or make a fool of myself. I started out doing a women’s bodybuilding plan that I had found online. I quickly realized how much lifting weights and getting stronger impacted my self-esteem. It helped me create a sense of confidence I never had before and I loved the way lifting weights shaped my body.

After graduating from makeup school, I started to realize how unfulfilled I felt working in the makeup industry. During this time I had made some noticeable progress with my physique and people would start asking me for fitness and nutrition tips. I was still learning myself, but I noticed how much joy being able to help others begin their own fitness journeys made me feel. Later that year I decided to stop pursuing makeup artistry and enrolled in the National Academy of Sports Medicine’s Personal Training course. I loved learning everything I could about health and fitness. After receiving my certification I started working for a corporate gym where I got to coach so many different types of people. I had never had a job in my life that I didn’t eventually dread going to until I started personal training. After working for a corporate gym for two years, I decided to embark on the next chapter and became an independent trainer at a private facility, where I currently am now! It’s been difficult but incredibly rewarding and I wouldn’t change a thing.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Absolutely not! Anyone who has ever owned their own business or been an entrepreneur would tell you it isn’t easy. You have to be incredibly self-sufficient and disciplined to make big moves and get the work done, there’s no one there to hold your hand or to tell you what to do. I’ve always known that I wanted to work for myself but I didn’t know if it could ever be possible. Despite it’s challenges and the fear that comes along with running your own business, it is incredibly fulfilling and I hope that I continue to succeed in my business and help my clients achieve their health and fitness goals.

Please tell us more about your work. What do you do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
I am a fitness and nutrition coach. I specialize in helping others achieve the bodies they desire while not sacrificing the foods they love or having to lead a strict lifestyle. I believe that health and wellness can be achieved while still being able to enjoy life. I teach my clients proper exercise form in the gym and I provide nutritional consulting where I show them how they can achieve balance in their life so they can still enjoy foods they love while reaching their fitness goals. I am most proud of the fact that I have been able to cultivate a community of people who understand that fitness is a lifestyle. I have seen confidence blossom in my clients that they never thought was within them.

By getting stronger physically, we also become mentally stronger. I have seen that within myself on my own fitness journey as well as with the clients that have been with me for years. I think what sets me apart is that I also implement mindset coaching into my business. Having a positive mindset can often be overlooked but I think it’s one of the most crucial components of achieving any goal. How can you reach your fitness goals if you don’t believe in yourself? You have to believe it’s possible and does the work that helps facilitate that goal.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I would love to be able to help more people, not just the ones in my community. I use social media to help spread my message and provide workouts, tips and strategies for anyone who is interested in following me and listening to my rants. I hope to be able to grow my social media so that I can help people from anywhere in the world by providing fitness and nutrition consultations. I would love to show more people that achieving their health and fitness goals does not have to be as difficult or as complicated as they think.
