Today we’d like to introduce you to Jackie Phan.
Hi Jackie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I grew up in a small town called Lacey, WA. I’m adopted, my birth mom has a mental illness and I never met my birth dad. I’ve been doing makeup for as long as I could remember, I used to take my sister’s makeup and go to town on my face, at the time I probably looked crazy! I would say I was a troubled youth, struggling with mental issues growing up, I spent my high school years being an addict, couch surfing and living in my friend Bella’s garage. Been to juvenile court a few times. When I was 15, I joined a group called Avidaddicts, an LLC created by Patsavii. That was the first time I was introduced into a family of Christ. We hosted homeless drives, booked performances, a group of teenagers that wanted to make a difference in the world by using entertainment. Photography, music, art, beauty, fashion, etc. I truly found my passion for the beauty industry there. On my 19th birthday, I decided to drop out of college and move to LA. I’ve been pretty much on my own ever since! Working a full-time job and freelancing nails and makeup for the past three years. I can say God has brought me so far in life and I thank him every step of the way, all this was possible because of him. I can’t wait for the future!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Oh no. It was never smooth haha! In fact, the complete opposite! But it was always been done gracefully. I continue to make mistakes even to this day, and I probably will never stop making mistakes! I would say sometimes I feel like I’m working so hard, but it feels like it never gets anywhere. Not having the finances to invest into my business like I dream too, which used to cause me to doubt myself a lot. But I am an entrepreneur, I am my own boss, this is the life I choose. And It’s the opportunities like this. Which makes every single struggle completely worth it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about AlikaJackie?
When I discovered my passion for the beauty industry, it wasn’t just because I loved doing the work. But it truly brought me joy to see females and males happy with the service I provided. If I could make someone feel extra special about their makeup or nails, it makes my heart dance inside. I am a self-taught nail technician/makeup artist. I did complete the schooling requirements just recently this year. I’m proud to be a female minority business owner! My overall goal is to make every one of my clients feel even more beautiful than they already are! I want to provide the best quality of service for normal prices, so everyone can get pampered without having to spend hundreds of dollars. I provide wedding packages, photoshoots, events, manicures, pedicures, etc. I specialize in custom press-on nails! That is where I truly get to express my artistic creativity, that’s what makes me stand out. I hope to be opening my own salon very soon someday. I’m so grateful for the clients that supported me every step of the way. I have made such good relationships with my clients and I hope to gain much much more!
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
No matter how you grew up, mistakes you’ve made, what circumstances and battles you face. If you have just the tiniest bit of faith in God. He will do everything for you. Believe in yourself. Believe in your ideas, and bring them to life. Let your light shine. No matter what people may think or say. Know that you are a precious gem. You are loved and you matter!!
