Today we’d like to introduce you to Ivirlei Brookes.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My first business was a fashion and beauty magazine in Atlanta. I thought I could turn the concept for the magazine into a show so I invested my energy into making a tv show around it. That bombed. I was devastated.
I decided to pivot and lean back into acting. A friend recommended I try coaching because I was always really excellent at giving dating advice. I tried it out, figuring I had nothing to lose. It was a great idea. I realized I was exceptional at it and I became a private dating coach for men. I did that for 4 years successfully. It wasn’t until I helped a friend’s mom with starting her business on the side that I realized I should be coaching in a different area. Working with women and helping them realize their dream really lights me up so it makes sense that my first business was a company made for women. Once I started working with female entrepreneurs and booking commercials here in LA, I knew I had found my sweet spot. I’ve been doing both ever since. Currently working on moving into tv and film acting and taking my coaching for business owners online.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s been a winding and hard road. But every hard spot ended up preparing me for what was to come. I had to take desk jobs when I felt lost, sleep on couches, save money to buy plane tickets to see my family. It wasn’t always an easy thing to try to find my way. I knew I was good at a lot of things I just didn’t know how to harness my talent in a way that created a sustainable income and lasting fulfillment until later in my life.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Mavenelle story. Tell us more about the business.
My brand is called Mavenelle. It’s an online platform for ambitious women who want to learn how to master their mindset and create a lifestyle around their version of success. I’ve always incorporated mindset mastery in my business coaching because it’s mandatory to ascend to a new level in your life and in your business.
Becoming a successful entrepreneur is actually more of a mental game than anything else. I’m proud that I’ve helped women go from wondering if their idea was good to creating enough wealth to provide opportunities for other women. Having a failed business starting out as well as a successful one after that helped me to understand what not to do and that’s what I teach other women.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Hmm, good question. I have an interesting relationship with the concept of luck. I don’t believe in mistakes. I think everything happens the way it should. To me, luck is the word we use to describe events, opportunities, or coincidences that we can’t explain. I believe in destiny.
