Today we’d like to introduce you to Israeio La’eida Holloway.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
At the age of 22, I had become a victim of Domestic Violence. I had experienced firsthand the effects of verbal, physical and psychological abuse. I had lost my identity. Yet, due to a praying mother that spoke change into my situation, I was determined to get my life back. Once I found the courage to release myself from my abuser I vowed to never allow myself to become a victim again. It was then I decided it was time to be effective and use my traumatic experience as a testimony to uplift and revive other women. I progressed through my pain and now possesses over 15+ years’ experience in the social services, education and mental health field combined.
I obtained a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Ashworth College. Currently listed on the Illinois State Board Of Education with a Para-Educator Assistant Teacher License with an Endorsement in Special Education, Listed as a Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional(QIDP) on the Illinois Department of Human Services Division of Developmental Disabilities Bureau of Quality Management Database, ECE (Early Childhood Education) Credential Level I from The Illinois Department Of Human Services Bureau Of Child Care And Development & Certified Trauma Professional.
In 2015, GOD had revealed my purpose and his vision for me to be a blessing to others that had lost Hope. I formed Hope and Divine Purpose Transitional Living Home, Inc. a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that advocates for young women ages 16-32 who are survivors of Human Trafficking/Exploitation and Homelessness. Since being incorporated, in 2017 I became a Board Member of The Southland Human Services Leadership Council. An organizational member of the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless & The Will County Children’s Advocacy Center: Will End Exploitation Coalition (WEEC). I’m the author of Body Safety For Children: No Secrets a multi-cultural interactive discussion book for parents on how to appropriately educate their children on body safety/body boundaries for child sexual abuse prevention.
In 2019, I created a sister company called Growth Mindset Consulting, LLC a consulting company to educate, share resources and provide business services to current/aspiring entrepreneurs to assist in personal and professional growth. To further combat homelessness and in the dedication of my journey to alleviate poverty I created an Infant to Toddler Basic Needs Food Pantry called HopeFULL. The food pantry reaches close to 15-25 low-income individuals/families a week. The food pantry is authorized to operate by the Will County Health Department-Environmental Services Division.
I’ve been featured in The Chicago Defender, Purposely Awakened, BlkGirlDaily & The Herald News-Joliet newspaper to raise awareness on Human Trafficking/Exploitation and Homelessness. Lastly, I was a 2018 She Rocks It. Woman You Should Know Award honoree.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Of course, my journey hasn’t been a cake-walk. I had years of unspoken trauma. I had to analyze my experience related to the effects of abuse. I had to question what it was about me that attracted abusive individuals. I had to re-evaluate the risk factors I displayed to position myself as a victim. My father and I never had a good relationship due to his immense battle with drug addiction. He was present in physical form but mentally he was in another world. At the prime ages of when a young lady needs her father for support and guidance, my father was non-existent. When he wasn’t under the influence of drugs, I became his outlet for psychological and verbal abuse.
I was mentally broken but unbeknownst to me, GOD was preparing me for my purpose. The first step in the healing process is to forgive. Therefore, once you can reveal your story to others without becoming emotional that is your clarity of a breakthrough. Your story is a testimony of hope to those who you can relate your struggles as a form of inspiration.
