Today we’d like to introduce you to Irma Vargas.
Irma, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am a Certified StrengthsFinder coach and have a BA in English from Whittier College and a Master’s in Public Administration from Cal-State Northridge. I have worked in the private and public sectors for several decades. My passion lies in helping others find their strengths.
Therefore, I left public service to start my journey on teaching, giving and creating. I have formed a group of companies that help me share my strengths, give to others to help them find and develop their strengths and be creative in the process. My experience and expertise in customer service, project and performance management, leadership and team building, were all laying the foundation for how I serve others.
I am a coach, consultant and podcast host, and producer who’s mission it is to help others be the best they can be. I believe we all have the capacity to shine. In my work I help others be visible so they can serve their customers and clients.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I was a single mother of three small children from the age of 27, and between working, child care, transportation it was a difficult road. I know hardship well, and yet there was support. I needed to learn my strengths and be willing to ask for help. Often times we think that the need for help is a weakness and we are wrong.
Knowing and asking for help is the most courageous thing we can do, not only for ourselves but for those who depend on us. I overcame my challenges in asking for the help I needed and not letting pride get in my way. This provided me with a true picture of what I needed to do to get past those challenges and create a life that was more joyful for me and my children.
This has served me for all the struggles that followed and is still the case because life at every stage will have some level of struggle. We are in control of how we react to it. I choose to look for solutions and not focus on the roadblock.
Please tell us about V1H Consulting.
When I decided become a consultanting business, it was to provide organizations with the ability to serve their communities without forgetting the importance of edifying their employees. In addition, working with entrepreneurs to help them shine and work in their talents and strengths.
Therefore, our mission is to produce tangible results by providing tools to increase employee engagement, productivity, and insights into customer service.
When organizations big and small take this approach, they are serving their clients, customers, and employees at optimum. We use the Gallup StrengthsFinder Assessment as the basis for this incredible work.
We help them remove limitations and leverage their strengths because most are trying to fix what is wrong rather than focusing on what is right.
Our pride rests in the work that we do and the change that comes about when others really appreciate the people who work for them and the people they serve.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I imagine that I would have planned to fail sooner so I could get it over with.
Sounds funny but I honestly think that if we get our own idea of success out of the way and focus on doing something everyday without looking at the long road ahead, we would be at success sooner.
Tom Brady, recently stated that he continues to win because he focuses on “One play at a time.” This is great news for all those who want to do anything.
