Meet Imari Whigham of Mindofmari in South Central

Today we’d like to introduce you to Imari Whigham.

Imari, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My love for music started when I was very young. When I was about thirteen years old, my older brother Donnie introduced me to a program called FL studio. I started exploring all of its features, and I never stopped! I would spend hours and hours on end, and eventually I created my own sound.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I wish I could say my road has been smooth sailing. However, as you know, to chase anything worthy comes with challenges. If the chase were easy, everyone would do it. One of the struggles I have faced is utilizing the appropriate platforms to showcase who I am and what my music stands for. I come off as an introvert you could say but I’m starting to embrace my artistry and be myself. I also have had to develop a financial understanding quickly. I have started to refine my marketing skills to promote my band. In my experience, I have come to realize networking is crucial to success. I am grateful to have built such allies that have supported me on this journey.

Please tell us about Mindofmari.
My company (Mindofmari) prides itself on producing. We like to work with young artists and create a sound that captures the authenticity of each artist’s identity. I specialize in creating beats for clients,’ as well as myself. In 2019, I was honored to be accepted into the 1500 sound Academy. At 1500 sound Academy, I was exposed to so many resources that I never knew I needed. Talented and passionate mentors surrounded me. Collaborating with them, I believe, will elevate me to a higher level of creativity. We are open to working with all types of genres. We strive to find inspiration in places that others overlook, as we welcome all artists who walk through our doors. Our company searches for artists that have a more authentic sound to capture bigger audiences.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I would learn an instrument and how to operate a Music DAW at the same time. Music theory helps a lot and being able to create on any music software is a great start in my opinion.
