Meet Ibrahim Genis of Audiogen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ibrahim Genis.

Ibrahim, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It goes back to my childhood years: I’ve been always curious about sound and electronics. Audiogen High End was founded in 2000; my first product was Wavac Audio, which is also our first product to distribute in North America. I loved the product when I began and loved it again when I began again in the U.S.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
High-end fields have always been tough fields to survive. We deal with certain age groups who have certain economical power to afford high-end products. You can overcome almost all difficulties with your friends and support groups. And I always tell the truth even if it is unpleasant.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We have branches in Istanbul, Toronto, and Los Angeles. We specialize in establishing and marketing high-end audio brands in specific territories, as well as designing audio systems for particular music and spaces. We attend 5-6 trade fairs per year, and we closely follow innovations. But what we do well is something very simple actually: we respect and value the people we deal with and we try hard to look at things from their POV.

Also, Los Angeles is a high-energy city inhabited by positive people and that is the most importing asset a city can possess. Our work is all about creating the right music systems for people and their specific spaces, which ultimately defines how our client would experience music. When you have your morning coffee sitting in front of your personalized music system and listening to your favorite music, it helps you to stop your inner monologue, start dreaming and be the person you want to be. Angelenos seem to know all this and they love their dreams, so this city is definitely the right place for our business.

The big problem here is the high rents. I hope Angelenos would help entrepreneurs by taking a break from the internet and going out to the streets, visiting local bookstores, coffee shops, and other businesses, get to know their owners personally. If you want to listen to music, for example, stop by my store! Strong communities enliven individual lives.

Also, we need a solution to the problem of homelessness and I feel that strong local communities will help that.

What were you like growing up?
I grew up in the vibrant European side of Istanbul, Turkey. My love for audio and music systems goes back to that time, as I said. I was in the middle of a hot market of high-end music systems and really loved Wavac and the warm sound of tubes; and the story of my business began.
