Meet Ianthe Mauro of Objects With Purpose in Malibu

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ianthe Mauro.

Once upon a time… Ianthe’s kindergarten teacher lit a candle before lunch at her Waldorf School, taking a moment to give gratitude. Lighting a candle became her way of giving thanks, focusing on an intention, creating warm fragrant ambiance, and calming down at the end of a long day.

As an adult, she was diagnosed with an auto immune disease and lighting candles, (with the intention to be strong and healthy), became a daily ritual.

Unfortunately, many of the candles she’d been lighting were toxic!

Researching the safest cleanest candles to burn for her family, she discovered organic coconut butter wax.

Back in 2009 there were no Coconut wax candles to buy. Out of this need, she was struck with the desire to make them herself!

Having high standards in design, as well as quality, oWp candles were born to deliver non-toxic sophisticated conscientious candles to everyone.

Using high grade scents inspired by stories and loved ones. Eco-wicks and 100% made in the USA.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been overgrown, bumpy, narrow at times and full of potholes! I find ways to course correct and stay on the path.

Coming from a background as an artist and actress I had no idea how to start or run a business.

I knew what I loved, what I didn’t like and what I wanted to create.

One of the early hurdles was creating a logo. At first, I assumed I needed a graphic designer (had no budget for this), or buy clip art.

One day I was drawing a bird’s nest on a branch and filled it with eggs to represent the potential and re-birth that comes with becoming an entrepreneur. I was actually looking for someone else to make this and there it was!

Trusting myself was the first step in building a business.

That logo has always drawn people to my brand and continues to inspire me to create.

One of my biggest struggles has been how to become friends with numbers and systems.

I have found amazing guides along the way to help e with cash flow, projections, understanding my numbers and being accountable to them.

I depend on experts to help me with my blind spots so I can focus on the unique vision and strengths that come naturally to me. It takes a family of guides to be a one woman show!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Objects With Purpose – what should we know?
I translate stories into luxurious fragrances and pour them into candles.

I encourage the practice of lighting a candle with intention. Imagining, dreaming, praying in a specific and virtuous way every time you light a candle, not just on your Birthday.

I am known for incredible scent stories, beautiful packaging and clean burning conscientious candles.

My candles have become the go-to VIP gift for luxury hotels, The Luxe, Ritz Carlton, Westlake Village Inn, as well as celebrity clients and fellow entrepreneurs. In the Oscar Swag Bag, on The Today show, Dr. Oz, for Mindy Kaling, Sugar Ray Leonard, Fox Studios, and every celebrity “read” on The Hollywood Medium.

I offer custom labels and an option to have a scent created for you based on your personal story.

My candles are a delivery system for making wishes!

The coconut wax can even be smoothed onto your skin as a moisturizer or cologne. We use body grade non-toxic fragrances and clean eco-wicks.

In my Malibu store I also support fellow women entrepreneur makers! With a collection of jewelry, accessories and T-shirts. Supporting causes to end human trafficking and providing clean water to African villages. I support local schools and the fight to end Juvenile Diabetes by donating gift baskets to silent auctions. I am always looking for opportunities to share the light.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?

I cannot put enough emphasis on the need to be flexible as an entrepreneur. It’s what allows me to turn disastrous mistakes into opportunities, course correct and stay on the path, and keeps creativity flowing.

Also, to push through the fear. To keep putting one foot in front of the other even when you feel like a failure.
