Meet Photographer Rachel Melanie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Melanie.

Rachel, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve been interested in photography for as long as I can remember! I got my first camera for my tenth birthday and started taking photography classes in middle school. I’ve worked with both digital and film photography, and have found that my love for the art continues to grow everyday. As a photographer, I have the opportunity to see so many beautiful places and meet so many beautiful people and I feel so fortunate to be able to do what I love every day!

Has it been a smooth road?
Like any career, there have been obstacles, but fortunately, I have always had the support and encouragement of my amazing family. My mom, in particular, has always encouraged me to get an education and pursue my dreams!

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and career?
Someone once told me that life is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we react to it. I think that we all have our own share of good and bad luck, but the important thing is what we do with the cards that we are drawn.

Is there a quality or characteristic that has played an outsized role in your success?
It’s so hard to pick just one! I believe motivation, passion, and drive are all equally necessary to success. They all go hand in hand. It’s important to never give up and to keep striving to achieve your goals despite the bumps in the road.

Tell us about your favorite and least favorites things about our city.
Having been born and raised in Los Angeles, I don’t think it’s possible for me to pick just one thing that I like best about this city! If I had to pick I would probably say the terrain! In Los Angeles, we have access to the beach, the forest, the desert and the mountains within a few hours. That’s pretty remarkable! It’s especially useful because I love using natural light for my sessions and the endless amount of landscape options makes it especially fun! The thing that I like least about the city would have to be the traffic. If we had a better system of public transportation we would all be a lot better off! (I think most LA locals would agree with me on that!)
