Meet Hollywood Visual Artist and Photographer: Jester Jungco

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jester Jungco.

Jester, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Born in Manila, Philippines. Raised in L.A. I started my visual journey started with my fascination with the car culture in the Valley around 2003. I would meet up with friends to cruise around the city past midnight and pull up in dope spots to shoot our cars. Then, I turned focus into street photography, weddings and from there, into taking portraits. My main focus right now are portraits of women.

Has it been a smooth road?
It’s definitely been a journey. There were a lot of doubts in the beginning. You know that critic inside your head that asks if you are good enough or that there is someone better than you. that’s a tough battle. Now, I’ve come to realize that none of it really matters, that I`m just going to keep doing what I love and do it the best I can. Its been working out really well so far!

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Yes, a photographer will need to be well versed in other forms of visual mediums such as video, cinema graphs, social media, etc.. but of course, these are all technical stuff. The for me one of the biggest part of being a photographer is the relationship and interaction you have with your subjects and clients.

What would you say has been the biggest challenge for you over the course of your career?
Balancing my day job and photography. It takes a lot of courage to take the leap and go full time as a photographer. I’m in that transition now.

Let’s change gears – is there any advice you’d like to give?
Keep shooting. Keep learning new things. Don’t get stuck on buying the latest and the greatest gear. If you like people as subjects, get to know them before shooting. If you like landscape, take time to listen and watch the light move. Photography isn’t about megapixels, it’s about the story and emotions you can convey.
