Meet Holly Smith of Concrete Botanical

Today we’d like to introduce you to Holly Smith.

Holly, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve been painting ever since I was little, and my love for plants really grew when I moved to LA and was living a block away from the Flower District in DTLA (which has a TON of plant shops) I knew I wanted to run my own business and combining art and plants is a dream job for me. That’s where Concrete Botanical began, and today it is an online store that focuses on bringing art into plant life. Painted pots are my jam, along with other plant-related products that I share daily on my Instagram.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been smooth but I’ve enjoyed the ride along the way! I think one of the biggest obstacles was testing my pots over and over to make sure they were water-resistant and that the paint holds up. I finally found the magic sauce, and now I just have a lot of “tester pots” around the house!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Concrete Botanical – what should we know?
Concrete Botanical is an online store focusing on art and plants, but it really is an extension of who I am and my personality. I love actually getting to know my customers through Instagram and the shop, and I’ve been so fortunate to have met so many sweet plant people. My goal with Concrete Botanical is to inspire people to live creatively through and with plants.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I feel that the most important quality in a business is creating community. In the past, myself and a friend have done events that we like to call “Boozy Botanical Nite” where we do some planting and socializing. To me, when you are with others, that is where the plant magic happens!
