Meet Helena Sardinha and Rafael Thomaseto of Driven Equation in Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Helena Sardinha and Rafael Thomaseto.

Driven Equation is a result of the work partnership in between Rafael and Helena. As native Brazilians, they aim to diversify the film industry, while merging their skills to discover and support new talent. Rafael and Helena met in film school, four years ago. After working together in a variety of projects, they decided to officially start a business together.

Has it been a smooth road?
Starting a new business/project is always hard. It requires a lot of work, focus and determination. We are competing with well-established companies with years of experience in their backs. We have to keep fighting for what we believe. We know that hard work pays off and that helps us keep moving.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Driven Equation – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Driven Equation seeks to empower young filmmakers by creating the possibility of developing projects we believe in.

We’re a full-service production house that challenges the boundaries of commercial filmmaking and masters the process of bringing any idea or vision to life.

We hand-pick projects that have the potential to shine the light on issues affecting our generation while paying special attention to the Queer and Female voices in expressing its desires, necessities and perspectives of the world.

We are most proud about the way we connect with our clients. More than projects, they are people and there’s a connection to be explored. To understand their necessities, reasoning’s for what they want to produce is fundamental.

Our main focus is development and sales, and those stages of film production can take several months or even years. It’s important that we believe in the projects we work on, especially once we’ll be working with it for a long period of time.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Los Angeles is beautifully diverse city, everyone is from someplace else. It is a city where people come and go, and because of that the recycling of energy is a constant. Far away from their families, people out here create community and connection within each other and there lies a beauty that’s hard to explain with words, you have to feel it.
The downside of LA is lack of public transportation, places are too far apart, makes routine hard.
