Meet Heidi Burns Hilton of Project Happy Hearts

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heidi Burns Hilton.

Heidi, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I always knew I wanted to give back to the heart world. The idea began in the hospital while I was recovering from open heart surgery 4.5 years ago. I woke up happy and grateful to be alive from surgery but knew this was just the beginning of a long road to recovery. Project Happy Hearts initially began as a lifestyle brand to create awareness around heart disease and promote happiness. Many people don’t know the two go hand in hand. Your physical health and mental health are closely related, especially for those affected by heart disease. After a few years of creating lifestyle clothing and holding events to promote Project HappyHearts, we transitioned into a nonprofit in order to make an even bigger impact. Today we support families affected by heart disease, provide free heart screenings and continue to promote awareness through our platform.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not. It started off easy… the first year I gained so much traction and had a village supporting me while I was creating the brand and recovering from open heart surgery. Then my health took a dip again and I’ve had several other surgeries throughout the last few years as well as some long-distance moves that made running a business tough. It has taken us a year to transition to a nonprofit and we are so excited to make a huge impact in this space not only in Southern California but all over the country too!

Project Happy Hearts – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Project Hearts is a nonprofit organization focused on creating awareness about heart disease. We provide free heart screenings to the public and support families affected by heart disease. We are on a mission to take the stigma away that heart disease only affects old people and improve the statistics for those living with heart disease. We are most known for our shirts: “I woke up this happy” and “Life is short, live it with a happy heart.” We sold thousands the first few years.

Our organization began as a marketing project to create awareness, not it has evolved into a nonprofit that has the potential to save lives! I am most proud of the fact that I created this company while going through the hardest time of my life. This company has now only helped me to heal but helped so many other affected by heart disease. I believe Project Happy Hearts is one of a kind because we prioritize our focus on both physical and mental heart health by promoting happiness through our brand.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
This is a tough question, but I think 4 years ago when I launched Project Happy Hearts and made my dream come to life. It was stressful but amazing and so so exciting.
