Meet Heidi Blackstock of The Xanadu Life

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heidi Blackstock.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Heidi. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.|
From the beginning?! That may take a while! I’ll give you some bullet points, starting with college.

I got my BA at CSUF in Graphic Design and Advertising because I knew I wanted to freelance and have the flexibility to travel and be my own boss. After college, I spent the next couple of years building up my freelance graphic design clientele while getting my 500-hour Yoga Therapy Certification at Loyola Marymount University.

Fast forward some years and I met the love of my life, Ryan Blackstock, whom I thought might just be a fun summer fling, but as time grew, so did our relationship. Our life together sprouted into us founding our company The Xanadu Life in 2013 .

In 2016, he proposed to me on top of a waterfall in Havasupai during the end of one of our Xanadu backpacking trips – so dreamy! In 2018, we had the ultimate adventure wedding in the jungle of Tulum, Mexico with 100 of our family and friends. Life has been a wild ride and such a blessing.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
A smooth paved road? Where is the adventure in that? We go offroading!

There have definitely been some major challenges, but as you know, that’s all part of life’s journey. Even though sometimes it get tough, things end up working out in funny and unexpected ways. It’s all part of the excitement, the interesting stories, and where the entrepreneurial badass gets to save the day.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Xanadu Life story. Tell us more about the business.
We started The Xanadu Life because we wanted to inspire the community to get outside to connect with each other through wellness, education, and green living. We felt like there was a need to give people a break from the busyness of the concrete jungle and their digital devices. We wanted to bring people together over sunshine and adventure, where naturally people become their happier self.

Over the seven years, we’ve hosted 100+ events in 20+ cities with 6,000+ attendees in the most beautiful of places. We’ve seen best friends find each other, marriage proposals, business relationships form, and continually see our community grow.

We’ve been featured on the Travel Channel’s “Secret Waterfalls” and have traveled all over the world to film with them, including one of our all-time favorites—island hopping in the Bahamas. Most recently, one of our Havasupai trips was featured on the Illinois Lottery for their $550 million dollar jackpot campaign (but don’t worry, you don’t need to be a millionaire to join our events).

This year, we’ve simplified our event offerings to three main annual events: Earth Day Coastal Cleanup, Xanadu Catalina island 5K, and Camp Xanadu (our summer camp for adults!) You can get more info here: www.facebook.com/thexanadulife or www.thexanadulife.com.

As of recent, we are moving into hosting private wellness & team-building events/retreats for groups and corporate companies, and already have some really incredible companies we are working with!

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
“Good” luck or “bad” luck comes and goes.

The good luck is a reminder to be thankful, it’s a reminder that the universe has got your back.

The bad luck is a reminder to be humble, it helps keep you on your toes, it helps keep things in perspective.
