Meet Heather Yesenia of SHOTSDEAMORX in South Central

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Yesenia.

Heather, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m a Mexican/American actress, photographer and artist born and raised in South LA. My love for acting began in high school when I was around 16 years old, I learned so much and the older I got the more passionate I became for the arts. I graduated high school and began my journey as an actress working on my craft, reading every book I could that would help me grow, taking acting classes and just learning day by day.

My love for photography and drawing also grew around my teen years, I remember my grandpa giving me my first film camera at 15, it was a Polaroid Land Camera which of course didn’t work but that didn’t stop me from reading and learning more about it. I was given my first digital camera a year later and it was literally my child, I would carry it everywhere; shoot everything and EVERYONE. Today I continue to grow and shoot whenever I could, I’ve learned to put together both my photographs and art in one; they balance each other out in a way and in some form has helped me in my acting as well.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Honestly NO it hasn’t, but I think that’s the beauty of the journey of an artist. I’ve had moments where I’ve come close to booking a role with HUGE opportunities and I didn’t get the part. The feeling of wanting it so bad but not getting it, but I wouldn’t change any of it. I LOVE acting, I love telling stories, I love learning and growing; that’s where I put my focus on…… GROWTH. I move on to the next thing, and I keep creating; photography is a beautiful escape for all that. I started to shoot film photography and that’s another journey of its own but I love it. I shoot with my Nikon FM 10 and I’m not gonna lie I felt so intimidated by it at first but I’ve learned and I’ve grown so much. I think with any form of art there’s always room to grow, recreate and build something new and unique.

I’ve been taught we can accomplish anything and everything we set our minds too, giving up is never an option. No matter how hard things get, we can always come out of it better, wiser and stronger; if you have a dream and you’re truly passionate about it then fight for it and don’t let the “NO’s” get to you.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with SHOTSDEAMORX – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Today I’ve been really into photographing people like other artists and truly getting to know the person in front of my lens. I truly enjoy meeting new souls, people with the same passion and creative mind as my own. You learn so much from others, I know I have; I’ve learned so much from the people I’ve worked with and I’ve grown because of them. My photographs have improved so much these past years and I think it’s because I’ve learned to somehow connect with the person I shoot. I’ve listened to their stories, their struggles and much of them have the same fears I do. Every artist is different in their own way, and for me not only as a photographer but as an actress it’s so beautiful to have that piece of insight, to be vulnerable and create art from that. I love to collaborate with other artist, I love to learn about their journey and where they started because it inspires me; art, people, everything that makes them; THEM!! I want to be able to tell their story through my art and hopefully others will gain inspiration or relate to them in some way.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
There’s so much I want to do and accomplish, I’m actually starting a graphic tee shirt line with my photography. I’ve been wanting to start this for a while now so I’ve been starting that; I also want to start my own production company and begin to make short films and expand to feature films. I would love to get into directing because I realized I enjoy being behind a camera; my photography has really helped me love capturing a moment or creating one. I want to tell many stories and bring my Mexican heritage to the screen, I want to be able to tell the stories of my grandparents and all of my family members who came to the United States with a purpose and a dream. I hope to continue on my journey in acting and to be able to work with many people I admire in the business. I also want to continue shooting film, grow more in that area and maybe one day do a fun gallery showing of all of my art.

I want to continue doing what I love, I want to continue to meet and create with other artists not just from here but from around the world. I want to continue to grow, break out of my comfort zone and learn as much as I can because I actually love to learn. I love to watch others grow, learn and accomplish everything they’ve ever wanted. I think we all have a purpose in life, we all have dreams and goals; it doesn’t matter how big or how small they are they were placed in you for a reason. It’s our job to share them with the world, we’re all talented and worthy of them it’s really up to us to do something special with them.
