Meet Heather Hudson of Revolt Wine Co. in San Diego

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Hudson.

Heather, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My journey started when I had the opportunity in college to study abroad in France. I fell in love with the world of wine and the culture behind it. When I returned to Nebraska to finish my International Business degree I knew I wanted to pursue a career in wine. A few years later I was given an incredible opportunity and hired by a winery in Napa. Although having never been to the area and not knowing anyone, my husband and I packed up and moved out to Santa Rosa, CA so I could work in Napa and pursue a degree in Wine Business. That was an amazing experience but ultimately I wanted to create my own story instead of sharing someone else’s. I decided to take that leap of faith and created my first brand of wine. I source grapes from across CA, produce my wines in Napa and operate from San Diego. After several years of exploring the ins and outs of having my own brand, two years ago I rebranded into REVOLT WINE CO. I took everything I’ve learned so far and created a brand that combines my passion of music with wine. A brand inspiring others to pursue their passions, as I’ve been able to do, through the power of wine & music. I interview artists and share their stories so fans can sip on a glass of REVOLT and put together a plan to go after that crazy dream they’ve always had.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think any journey worth traveling is going to be smooth. And if it is, you aren’t pushing yourself hard enough. I have had so many setbacks I’ve lost count. I truly believe what sets apart those who succeed and those who don’t, is tenacity. If you are able to overcome adversity and setbacks, you will eventually end up on top.

One struggle I remember clearly is during one of my wine transports. I purchased fruit from a vineyard, had it pressed and needed it sent to my production facility in Napa. This particular time, I couldn’t find anyone to do transport. When push came to shove, it had to arrive by a certain day, so as the owner I had to do it myself. Keeping in mind – this isn’t something I’d ever done. I rented a truck, loaded the empty barrels, drove hours to get them filled, had to hit all the weigh stations (which I had no clue what to do) and deliver them to Napa. I arrived in Napa to discover that I had left the back of the truck WIDE open and could have very easily had all of the barrels roll out as I’d been driving had they not been secured properly.

Just one example of many where I didn’t know what I was doing but ultimately the best way to learn is to dive right in and figure it out. Fortunately, in this case it worked out, but if it doesn’t – you’ll learn exactly what not to do next time.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about REVOLT WINE CO. – what should we know?
I’ve created a wine brand that partners exclusively with the music industry. Wine, like music, has the ability to take you back to a feeling or moment. So why not pair the two together? There’s nothing better than sipping on a great glass of wine while listening to music. At REVOLT our mission is to inspire through the power of wine & music. We do this by partnering with musicians to share their stories to help inspire others to pursue their passions.

I’ve had the opportunity to sit down with some incredible artists over some of my REVOLT wine and uncover their stories on how they got started and how they stay motivated. A few being; The Offspring, Warren G, Iration, Pepper, Yellowcard, Atlas Genius and The Maine.

What sets our company apart from the hundreds of other wine brands? Our mission and connection to music. For me, it’s never just been about the wine. It’s about the memories you make while drinking it, the moments you remember and the dreams you create.

Success, for me, is not someone saying, “Your wine is go great!” It’s someone saying, “I read your story and it’s inspired me to go after something I never thought possible!” That is truly creating an impact and the ultimate success in my book.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Being genuine with a laser focus on my mission is the most important characteristic to my success.
