Meet Hayden Ditto of Versus Enigma in Palmdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hayden Ditto.

Hayden, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Versus Enigma started in 2016 in the backyard of my parents’ house. At first, I started off by bleaching band tees and selling them to my close friends. To my surprise it got a lot of people’s attention and as soon as I saw somebody wearing something I created, I was hooked. I bleached band tees for a few months. But I knew I could only go so far bleaching band tees. I knew it was time for me to step it up and start doing all my own designs. There was only one problem, I had no fucking idea how to run a business.

I was 18 years old and fresh out of high school. My dream was much bigger then I was. One thing I did know, I was willing to do whatever it took to make my dream come true. The next several months consisted of many sleepless nights, and countless hours of research.

Slowly but surely, everything started to come together. The hard work paid off, I found people who believed in me very early on. What was once a dream, is now becoming a reality. I couldn’t be more grateful for the life I live. Every hardship I went through formed me into the person I am today. I am now more resilient then I ever was.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I can honestly say starting your own business has to be one of the most difficult things you can do. I struggled immensely with finding someone to manufacturer my products. Every time I talked to a potential manufacturer and told them I’m starting my own clothing line, they’d laugh in my face because I didn’t meet their production minimums, and had no capital.

Another struggle I had, was convincing my family members that this was more than just a pointless brand. Fashion is definitely a very competitive and saturated industry and I knew it was going to take a lot to prove myself to my family and peers. Anyone can create a simple name & a logo and throw it on a shirt. I wanted to create my own lane, and more than anything stay true to myself. I want Versus Enigma to entirely speak for itself. My goal is to create such a unique piece, you can tell just by looking at it that it’s Versus Enigma.

I want to encourage everyone that no matter how hard it gets, you can’t give up. The moment you give up is the moment you fail. If you want something bad enough you WILL MAKE IT HAPPEN.

Versus Enigma – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Versus Enigma creates clothes for the people. We aren’t defined as just a men’s clothing line, anyone and everyone can wear VE! As a company we strive to provide our customers with superior quality, the absolute best customer service, and unique pieces that fit perfectly in your everyday wardrobe.

We are definitely known for our unique designs (specifically our angel wings), and for our hoodies! Our first ever drop was in April 2017. The drop consisted of 3 Tee shirts, and 3 hoodies. I thought the Tees were super dope, but they were EASILY over shadowed by the hoodies.

I noticed the demand for hoodies. However here in Palmdale its 100+ degrees until late October. So for the next 7 months I did extensive research on textiles, different approaches to designing, and found the best hoodies I could get my hands on. November 2017 rolled around and we did our first ever hoodie drop, and it was an instant hit! So be sure to keep your eyes out for our next Fall/Winter drop.

We are most proud of our approach to the streetwear industry. As an emerging company in such a saturated industry, we stay true to ourselves and to our roots. We put our heart and soul into every collection we produce. We constantly push our boundaries and make sure we are constantly improving ourselves and evolving as a brand. We will never conform to the ways of this world, and to the ways of over branded, emotionally detached American enterprise. I realize I am only where I’m at because of all the people who support me. I am forever grateful for my home town and the people in it.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
To me, success isn’t determined by numbers, or dollar signs. Success is defined by authenticity, recognition, and respect.

No matter how big Versus Enigma gets, I will never truly feel successful. I am constantly pushing for improvements, and for growth. Even once this brand is established, and known worldwide I will still strive for more… That’s just the person I am. I am truly trying to turn this brand into a legacy. I will never slow down and nothing will stop me from leaving my mark on this world.

I know Hayden personally and watching him grow as a creator has been incredibly inspiring to me. I remember back in middle school giving him a piece of gum every single day, now my closet is filled with VE hoodies! His work ethic and determination is amazing. This brand is unlike anything you’ll ever see in a Target or Forever 21, it’s one of a kind.
