Meet Haven Everly

Today we’d like to introduce you to Haven Everly.

Haven, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I grew up in Sacramento, California, with a very musically inclined family. My parents are from the Philippines and they were both aspired singers. They both gave up their dreams to move to the US and eventually met each other in Sacramento. I have one oldest brother and two older sisters. My parents decided to create a DJ business when I was about four years old to continue their love for music. Growing up, my sisters and I (my brother was much older and too shy) would go to every wedding, birthday, or christening gig my parents had over the weekends and we would sing for each event.

Eventually, my sisters and I formed a singing group called The three Angels. We sang Christian, R&B, and pop music that highlighted our harmonies. Since the age of five, my sisters and I spent every weekend performing together. We decided to take our singing group seriously and began writing our own music. We made a demo CD with our producer/cousin Rogeniv and was discovered by numerous agents throughout my adolescence.

A few years later, my sisters and I were given the opportunity to move to New York City and work with a management team. For two years, we were shopped to different record labels and were artist developed. We experienced adversity because it was difficult for labels to market three Asian sisters who sang R&B music. After two years of trying to make it in NYC, we decided to move back to Sacramento.

I started taking acting classes back in Sacramento and discovered my love for acting and performing in front of a camera. In 2016, I moved to LA to pursue acting/singing on my own. I also began developing my social media following online.

Last year, I landed my first lead role in a film called “The Girl Who Left Home”. It is scheduled to release in 2020. Today, I continue to pursue my love for acting and for music, and I hope to inspire, connect, and change the world just a little.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has been a very rocky road full of growth.

One of the biggest struggles that I’ve experienced while pursuing a career in the entertainment industry was my experience in New York. When my sisters and I were shopped by different labels, we received a lot of resistance because it was hard for labels to market us here in the US. The management team tried to develop us as a k-pop group because labels didn’t think the market would accept three soulful Asian singers.

Another adversity that I’ve grown to accept is rejection and uncertainty. The entertainment industry is a very risky industry and there’s really no blueprint manual that can tell you how you can make a successful living in this business. It takes a lot of patience, perseverance, and faith to continue to pursue a career in this field.

Tell us more about your work.
I am an actress, singer, entertainer, and influencer. As an entertainer, I am most proud of my connection with my audience through my honesty and my art. Because of my vulnerability, I am able to connect with people who may be experiencing what I’m going through or who may be inspired to pursue the entertainment industry as a career.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In the next 5-10 years, more stories of different cultures and experiences will be told through the growth of diversity and the interconnectedness of new media, social media, and the internet.
