Meet Harry Bagramian of Project Giving Light

Today we’d like to introduce you to Harry Bagramian.

Harry, before we jump into specific questions about the organization, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Project Giving Light got started by seeing a need that was getting overlooked. I visited a school about three years ago that specifically serves underprivileged children in Orange County. I was able to hang out with the kids and staff. One thing I noticed was that these children are being overlooked. They are a part of society that is not being appreciated. For some reason it struck me after spending time with these amazing children that we should celebrate them on their Birthdays! They deserve to be loved and filled with joy on their special day. So, we kicked off our first party. It was just me my wife Kim our two kids Harry Jr and Sophia. No volunteers. But we had a blast and it was a total success. We now have five locations we celebrate at in Orange County and have celebrated over 1,500 children in three years. Our volunteers are amazing and we have site leaders who run our parties in five cities! We are blessed and are growing!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
We have learned to be patient in the process. Everything worth working for always takes time. Our strongest asset is our Volunteers! I would say to someone starting a non-profit. Give yourself some grace. If your heart is in it. It will all work out. Doors will open.

Please tell us about the organization.
We give Birthday Parties to Underprivileged children all over Southern California. Right now, specially in Orange County. Our parties are once in a lifetime experience for the children. They are permanent memories that they hold onto forever. It’s truly a gift that will last a lifetime! We know leaving that we have left an impression on each child’s life. That they are LOVED and that is the most important thing!

We are also expanding our program to our Project Giving Light Birthday Box! These boxes anyone can do right from their home. Putting items such as a gift, art supplies and essentials. This is a great way to help give Birthday love to so many children! These boxes will be given to Underprivileged children all over Southern California! Specifically, Orange and Los Angeles County!

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Our success is not based on numbers. It’s based on the mark we leave with each child we celebrate with and for. We don’t rush anything. Every moment is appreciated with them. We want all the children to feel valued. We have celebrated over 1,500 children and I have no doubt one day millions of children. But the focus of each individual child matters. That will never change.
