Meet Hanqing (Kim) Jin of Kimmoments Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hanqing (Kim) Jin.

Hanqing (Kim), please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Originally, I came to US for a music career, but it did not start well. While I was struggling with school work and adjusting with the new culture, I was actively looking for a creative outlet. That was when photography came to play. I started by taking photos for friends and for student organizations, which gave me ample opportunities to practice basic skills. The turning point for me really was the graduation season in 2017. I took grad photos for 30+ friends that year, which boosted my reputation. I have since then constantly been taking photos, including engagement photos, a couple of photos, portraits, and so on.

When everyone thought I am completely leaning towards photography, I have actually figured out my next step and how I want to pick up my music dream. I am starting my graduate program in Entertainment Industry Management in Carnegie Mellon University this August. I will continue practicing photography while searching a way to combine visual images and music to improve the music experiences for people.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I wouldn’t say that the process was tough, but I have not been progress the fastest. I think the biggest obstacle was that I was too “chill” about it…

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Kimmoments Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a freelance photographer. I specialize in portraits, including headshots, couple & engagement photography, group portraits, family portraits. I believe that everyone shines in their own unique way, and my job as a photographer is to discover it and record everyone’s uniqueness. I value my communication with my customers because I think that affects the shooting process.

I do have a preferred style but I try my best to tailor each session to each customer.
