Meet Hallie Slade

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hallie Slade.

Hi Hallie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Jesi and I each got our start in the wedding industry. She is the owner of Jesi Haack Design, and I founded LB Events. As LB grew and began working with some higher-end wedding clients, I would bring Jesi in to help design the weddings so that I could focus on my heavy plate of logistics. Our partnership was filled with lots of laughter & champagne at first sight! We collaborated on a large corporate event, realized we loved that side of the industry and started building SLAACK Productions together. Since then, we have had the opportunity to work with so many awesome brands… Salesforce, LaCroix, Facebook, Carl’s Jr & Alaska Airlines to name a few!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
This entire industry is the bumpiest road you’ve ever been on! It’s how you navigate all the potholes and obstacles that define your event successes or failures. Obsessive organization and attention to detail are key. We have had a backdrop fall down in the middle of a speaker panel, a fabrication partner that just plain didn’t make it to a job across the country in time, many install nights of missed sleep and more adhesive problems to count. Managing our clients’ expectations between design, budget and the product/service we deliver can often be a struggle. We’ve delivered design decks to clients that we are incredibly proud of, only to receive immediate negative feedback… because really the design world revolves around personal perception & taste. Budgets, of course, are at the top of our “struggle list.” The process in our industry is naturally “design then budget,” and we’ve certainly been guilty of wowing our clients with a design that, once priced out, is over-budget. All that aside, we’ve been fortunate enough to maintain a core team of talented producers who face adversity well and stay calm under pressure; keeping the struggles out of the spotlight as much as possible!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
SLAACK Productions specializes in all aspects of event design & production. We are most known for producing creative, experiential activations for our clients’ brands that lead to a high ROI on social media. We build on-brand installations that don’t give attendees another choice but to snap & post pictures of them, pushing brand awareness in return.

We are most proud of all of the brands that have approached us to work with them. Being such a boutique event production company, it’s been flattering to work with some big names across all industries.

The difference in working with SLAACK vs. other production agencies out there is our agency experience. It sounds funny, but we pride ourselves on our lack of professionalism and “keep it real” attitudes. We are not salespeople. We shoot everyone straight and lace as much as possible with lighthearted humor. Prompting a budget email with “WAIT, take a shot of tequila first” actually goes a long way. We love that we have great relationships with our clients that tend to lead to repeat business.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Covid-19 showed us that we’re in one of the worst industries to be in during this time, ha! And not to take anything for granted. We were sitting back and soaking in event after event thinking our crazy busy schedules would never end, and then POOF… gone, all of them. You can never get too comfortable in your success because it can all be taken away in a heartbeat. There is always work to be done! We were ready to adjust and pivot and took on some different types of projects throughout the year. We also tried to take care of our team as much as we possibly could and are thankful that we still have our leads waiting in the wings for when everything picks up again!
