Meet Haley Smith of LoveLeys Hair in Richmond

Today we’d like to introduce you to Haley Smith.

Haley, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I grew up with a single mother who knew very little about hair and didn’t have the funds to take me to the hair salon.

At age seven, I realized I had two choices, either learn to do my own hair or look crazy for the rest of my life. From second grade on, I became my own stylist; this was noticeable up until ninth grade. Eventually, my pain became my passion.

I realized that my gift was in an area I worked only out of necessity. After three failed trips to hair salons, and motivation from my best friend, I discovered a void in the hair industry. I realized there is a lack of “Love” and passion in hair care.

I moved to Virginia to further my education and acquire my cosmetology license. I decided to devote myself to giving my clients what I was always missing, Passion, Love and Care for their Hair. Thus creating LoveLey’s Hair. I specialize in curly hair, color and realistic extensions.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The biggest challenge has been reframing the salon experience. Many women in our community have had bad experiences and so much trauma from salons. My mission is not only to shift the mindset of clients about their Natural hair but also my team of stylists on how to treat clients and leave an impactful experience.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
LoveLeys Hair mission is we are ”Licensed&DeVoted to help women LOVE their Hair”. Creating Hair Solutions for Resilient Women. We value experience and education very highly. We promote helping women not only feel comfortable but also confident and capable with managing their hair. We are known for curly hair cuts, color and extensions. I am most proud of the comforting and inviting atmosphere we provide to our clients. What sets us apart is our push for self-acceptance and redefining what a healthy hair routine is.

What were you like growing up?
I was always very shy. I was timid, introverted and had a huge passion for beauty.
