Meet Haley Sanchez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Haley Sanchez.

Hi Haley, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We’ve always been the artsy/crafty type. I (Haley) grew up in a crafty house with a mom who collected E V E R Y T H I N G creative-related and organized every piece in perfect color order. The side hustle started at an early age when my mom would have holiday boutiques at our house to sell jewelry and I’d have a table set up in the corner of the living room selling bracelets, keychains or really anything someone would actually buy. Fast-forward 25 years and here I am. Eric was always creative and certainly ingenious. He’s always had an eye for detail and the ability to see something and gain great inspiration and then create breathtaking art from this inspiration. His college years were spent learning every medium of art and design you could think of but his love for graphic design and screen printing were always apparent. Fast-forward 18 years and here he is.

We planned our wedding in the pre-Pinterest days, so the craftiness continued. Then, the babies came. We decorated Olive’s (9 years old!) room and that was our first real attempt at decorating and ultimately being SO proud of the finished product. We’ve got that knack for really making our collective vision come to fruition (and we think that’s been pretty important for our business thus far). Once the babies come, then the birthday parties come. OH, the birthday parties. More is obviously more and then some. We should have learned after Olive’s first birthday party when we spent our entire lives for two weeks making a GIANT piñata. For a ONE YEAR OLD. WHY?!!!

Anyway, the 2nd birthday is when the magic happened. Of course, we went over-the-top again (because duh- we only had one baby at that time) but this is when the candle-making began. We took a shot in the dark and decided to do some YouTube research on candle-making. We bought 4 oz canning jars from Walmart and ordered tropical fragrance oils to make party favors for her “Under the Sea” themed 2nd birthday party. Everyone LOVED them. And there you have it. We had an epiphany. We’ve been makers and crafters from the get-go. We’ve made art. I’ve made jewelry. Eric’s made shirts and bags and graphics and yada yada. But, we finally found something that both men and women like. Everyone likes a candle. Everyone loves a fun brand. Fast-forward almost eight years, two business names later and here were are.

I guess that’s not all, though. We did have another baby. Our feisty little señorita, Pearl is six and about as much work as three extra kids. We have a lot of fun together. You may catch all four of us at events around the area or not (if we’re lucky and have a sitter or mother-in-law to provide the welcomed and needed break). We love Disneyland and have been annual pass holders since before the babies came but kids make it even sweeter. We love treats and I’ve unfortunately passed that down to my kids who think that every dinner should end with a treat or a trip to the Orange Circle so that mom and dad can get coffee and they get gelato. Where do these kids get off?!

Eric and I have our best time when we’re trying out new coffee shops and kicking ass at the hustling game. We love a good adventure and really wanted to align the brand with exactly that. Our focus is memories, travel and all things CA, including the special cities, towns and communities up and down this golden state. We’re so proud of our little business that we’ve worked so tirelessly on and we must send major props to all of you amazing people who continue to encourage us and buy our candles. We aren’t done here, so stick with us for more adventure and never-ending fun.❤️

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It’s been hard!! Comparing is the thief of joy but also the easiest loop to fall into but focusing on the day I’m in instead of yesterday or last week has been so important. I’m always looking forward, really trying to understand that ebs & flows are normal and some years are just better than others. And obviously, the strangest times ever (a freaking pandemic, ahem!) can give you the beat, most profitable year to date. E-commerce is a wild ride but there’s room for everyone and the future is what excites me the most.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’ve got a real knack for choosing scents that align with memories and that’s really what the brand is based on- adventure & nostalgia. I’m so proud of the creativity my husband and I have embraced and how we complement each other and our own separate strengths in this business.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I feel like luck is sort of everything. There are days where an event just sucks but the same event two weeks back was a huge success!! But honestly, attitude is everything to me. If you go in with negative vibes, luck may not be on your side. But yea, good and back luck have been part of this and where I’d much prefer GOOD luck, the bad luck is humbling, too.
