Meet Gustavo “Goose” Polanco of The A1 Collective

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gustavo “Goose” Polanco.

Gustavo “Goose”, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m 28, Afro-Latino artist have been traveling & working with my love and passion for dance since the age of 17! I was junior at my performing arts high school in my home-town in Massachusetts. Then got on America’s Best Dance Crew Season 5 on MTV my senior Year with Dance company Static Noyze.

Shortly after that, I went on my first national tour with Cirque Dream, then moved to Hawaii to fulfill my dream as a competing Dance/Choreographer and compete internationally in the world of Hip Hop Dance. From four years Hawaii to four years moving to Australia! I learned that my love for dance can take me anywhere and the SKY was the limit. So in 2017, I moved back to LA to see where the “dancers dream” can take me.

Now I’m here doing an interview for Voyage LA. Some ups and downs along the way & definitely some life lessons I would never take back. Because it made me the person, I am today. NOW I am teaching full-time for one of the most sought out dance studios in LA area “Snowglobe Perspective”. Worked a year as a work study at Movement Lifestyle in North Hollywood. Now running my exhibition company The A1 Collective. Now because of the pandemic working in Arizona with a dance company who have been working in the industry since 2010 Elektro Dance Academy. I’m super blessed to be able to do what I love in these weird times, but thats the dream. & I cant wait to keep pushing and dreaming for our next generations of dreamers.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road is actually a roller coaster, and I use to be terrified of taking those be leaps, but now! I’ve learned so much. So falling on my face sometimes is my favorite part about my growth because I can see either if I’m ready to get back up and learn. Or reset think about what went wrong and push forward!

Please tell us about The A1 Collective.
The A1.Collective is an exhibition group of elite dancers all handpicked from the top collegian dance teams in the west coast dance community (GRV, The Lab, VMO, Elektrolytes, 220, The Pakt, Profound Dance Company, Culture Shock SD, Jabbawokeez.). Instead of competing against each other A1 is the equal to the united nations of the dance community where we all come together and & perform.
