Today we’d like to introduce you to Angel Gravves.
Angel, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley. I’ve always wanted to play guitar since I was a younger kid. I remember riding in the car with my dad while he played classic rock and I would just sit back, close my eyes and pretend it was me playing all those crazy solos. When I was about seven, I decided to explore our garage and snoop around when I found my dad’s old acoustic guitar. When I made that discovery, I would go into the garage all the time just to play that thing. I finally decided to claim the guitar as mine and took it to my room and thats kind of where it all started. I taught myself how to play by ear and taught myself everything I could. I’ve been playing guitar ever since. As a kid, playing guitar was everything to me. It was a way for me to express myself without any interruptions. I’ve had a stutter since I can remember so I never felt comfortable speaking. Playing guitar helped me break out of that barrier because I could finally express myself fluently the way I’ve always wished I could.
I’ve been lucky enough to play for some pretty awesome bands and got to meet great people. I am now playing for Gravesend and I could never thank Freddy enough for the opportunity. I’ve been having the time of my life with these guys that I consider my family.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I’m not going to lie, it’s never been a smooth road. I’m sure everyone goes through their own battles and obstacles, but we hope to push through and come out a better person. Some of the struggles I’ve faced along the way have to do with personal life difficulties affecting my mental presence with the band. Thankfully, I work with great musicians that are understanding and always there when you need them.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
GRAVESEND is a group of friends that love to jam out and have fun. We get together and do what we love.. what more can you ask for? I play guitar in the band and I specialize in playing tasty licks and solos. When I see the crowd having a good time, I know I’m doing something right. Our fans make everything worthwhile and is what I am most proud of. Their continuous support always blows me away. It’s comforting when you have these people supporting your music and keep pushing you to do better. Knowing that someone out there believes in me and the band is what pushes me to do better. We love all of you.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Honestly, I was very lucky and fortunate to have met Freddy. I actually met him when I posted a guitar pedal for sale on craigslist and Freddy ended up buying it. I was in a different band at the time and we ended up playing a show together. About a year later, I got invited by Freddy to be part of a music video and eventually got the offer to become a member of GRAVESEND. I’ll forever be grateful to that dude. I love you man!
