Today we’d like to introduce you to Gianna De La Torre.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My professional story is my life story, helping people heal is my passion. I’m lucky also to call it my job. I grew up in New Mexico, and as a kid, I planned to follow in my father’s footsteps and be a doctor.
Despite this aspiration, I was wary of pharmaceutical companies from a young age. They essentially took our family on extravagant vacations to persuade my father to prescribe their drugs (which is now illegal). This would eventually be one of the reasons I chose alternative medicine. In college, I found yoga, it was the gateway to my spiritual journey.
After graduation, I traveled to India to deepen my yoga practice. While there, I discovered Ayurveda. I shadowed a practitioner for a month and was taken by the elegant understanding of the body. Eastern medicine looks at the constitution of the patient, determines the ideal foods to consume, as well as what should be avoided. The key to health can be that simple. This philosophy resonated with me deeply .
I ultimately chose to get a masters in Chinese Medicine & Herbology because I loved the way acupuncture made me feel. I wanted all my patients to feel the euphoria of acupuncture after leaving my office. It offers a cognitive and physical shift. While I was studying Chinese Medicine, I suffered a great loss. I was in the car with my boyfriend at the time, something flew through the windshield and took his life.
After that moment I would never be the same. This trauma required a second spiritual awakening to put my life back together. The short story is that I honed my intuitive gift. In addition to acupuncture, I studied Theta Healing, meditation, and Reiki. Eventually, my practice blossomed when I combined acupuncture with intuitive reading, this is Acu·Intuit. I’ve been practicing this for ten years now.
I have always offered cosmetic acupuncture, but lately, I’ve felt called to put it at the forefront of my practice. I love offering a beauty treatment that is totally holistic and actually improves your overall health. The beauty industry sells us on the concept that we aren’t enough. True beauty radiates from a healthy, balanced individual. I combine beauty acupuncture treatments with intuitive reading, just like all the AcuIntuit sessions I do.
My latest venture (other than just becoming a mom) is that I co-founded Wildling, a beauty brand that features facial gua sha. Gua sha is an ancient Chinese Medicine technique that is used on the entire body, but when used on the face it restores lift and tone to the tissue. We designed a custom gua sha tool that is the swiss army knife of facial pampering. We combine the gua sha tool with whole plant, herbal infused facial oil, and toner.
The backbone of our company is the concept of self – love, take time to practice this ritual, and you will look and feel better.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Life is a series of breakdowns and breakthroughs, but this is growth. I have been blessed that my path always seemed clear to me, but it wasn’t always easy to follow. When I began owning my intuitive gift, I had a lot of self-doubts come up. I worried people would think I was a quack. I had to reconcile that intuition isn’t a language our culture values.
We aren’t taught from a young age that we are all made of energy and we sometimes feel what other people are feeling. We aren’t taught to understand how connected we are as beings. I don’t think my gift is rare, we are ALL intuitive. Our intuition is like a muscle, use it daily, and it gets quite defined.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the AcuIntuit story. Tell us more about the business.
I specialize in the combination of acupuncture and intuitive reading or Acu·Intuit, as I called it. It’s a mystical acupuncture experience like no other. Acupuncture is a 4000-year-old tried and tested modality that consists of a pulse/tongue diagnosis and a treatment tailored to the patient’s constitutional needs.
This medicine heals on a deep energetic level in a way that is palpable. Patients can enjoy the movement of energy or qi lulling them into a relaxed and blissful state. While they are in this state, my patients also receive an intuitive reading, this really makes it different than any other acupuncture experience. The intention behind the intuitive reading is to identify anything standing in the way of your fullest expression.
Patients bring questions to this interactive session, it can really be about anything (health, jobs, relationships, big life decisions). No one needs a specific reason to come in, just an open mind. The goal is for all patients to experience the shift in their physical, mental, and emotional state after every session.
Cosmetic acupuncture is no different than any other session. Patients experience all of the above and a little more. We will still be working on any health issues in addition to the face/neck. After the cosmetic acupuncture is complete, I finish every session with facial gua sha, the Wildling “Empress Ritual.” I’m so excited to have this system to share with my cosmetic patients.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I feel so lucky every day! I have the best job.
My biggest stroke of bad luck was the car accident that I’ve spoken about. That emotional scar tissue makes me who I am. Unless you’ve experienced extreme trauma, you don’t really understand it.
I am able to help people deal with trauma. I also have such a profound appreciation for my life, that depth of appreciation only comes from having come so close to dying.
