Today we’d like to introduce you to Tony G.
Tony, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Originally from Norcal/Bay Area. Just your everyday kid who was inspired by my dad watching Musicals, variety shows and entertainers perform on television. I had no clue that this huge world called Entertainment on TV was quickly instilling the feel, vibe and flow of musicality into my brain. A local dance contest in H.S. got my attention to participate in where I placed 3rd with my partner. We were highlighted on the front page of the local newspaper sports section and it was a pretty big deal. At the same time, a closing H.S. was merging with ours and that is where I was introduced to the world of dance and something called Modern Dance. Although I had no clue I wanted to participate. The news article caught the attention of dance teacher Nancy Christiansen and it helped me get enrolled in the class. She wanted to make sure I was in it for dance and not just the girls or an easy A. That is the true start of a journey that would be all about training, dance, choreography, staging and being a performer. I never set out to be a performer or a dancer. I just wanted to be doing something in the entertainment world no matter what it was. Finally moved to Los Angeles and the challenge of finding my ground was established. It was not about showing these guys my talent. It was about my hustle, drive, work ethic, common sense and the ability to follow directions that made me stand out as well as struggle in LA.
It took a long minute for me to get signed with an agency. I was either too short, too stocky or not good looking enough. Unlike most who would be discouraged. All the no’s fueled me to prove people wrong and keep my focus on knocking doors or obstacles down. United Spirit Association a summer training camp that also did special events believed in my drive. Diane Bonds The Laker Girl choreographer at the time believed in my talent. Making it to the top 40 guys for the AMA’s with Paula Abdul back in the days got some of the agents to now notice me and get their attention. all this positivity made me balance out the negativity and move forward into the world I now call GFRESH INC.
I am a Creative Director, Choreographer, Casting Director, Artistic Director and Producer who just loves and enjoys working and giving work today in and around the USA. My work can be seen on TV, Commercials, Film, Print, Music Video. Stage. NBA and NFL floors and whatever might be needed in the world of dance.
Has it been a smooth road?
A bumpy road to this day. Always having to prove or reinvent what you have to offer. Yet the best part of having the bumpy roads is looking for the smooth paths. How you navigate it, what direction you take it and how you can avoid it. So I to this day I love a challenge. Without it, I wouldn’t have the passion to figure it out. The struggle is real. It is how you approach, attack it and the outcome. Every audition is a struggle even after possibly booking a job. I stay true to my worth, my passion and most importantly my work ethic.
