Meet Geoffrey Funk in Playa Vista

Today we’d like to introduce you to Geoffrey Funk.

Geoffrey, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I relocated from Cleveland, Ohio in 2006 to Los Angeles to fulfill my dream of working in the Music Industry. During my time in college, I participated in over 30 internships across the Entertainment Industry. Some of the most notable include Marvel Studios, Interscope Records, Flower Films (Production company of Drew Barrymore), WWE Studios, Island Records, The Firm, Front Line Management. (Irving Azoff Management), Live Nation Entertainment, The Collective, Velvet Hammer Management, Just Keep Livin (Production Company of Matthew McConaughey and many others.

In 2009, I began working in the social media department at the digital agency Total Assault and in 2012 took a position at Rebel Waltz, the management company for No Doubt, Gwen Stefani, The Offspring, Nine Inch Nails and others.

In 2016, I founded Restless Digital and three years later, I merged my artist roster of 10+ clients into XX Artists. XX Artists is the agency of record for YouTube, Mattel, and Biossance, creator and influencer talent like Lilly Singh, Nick Cannon, Jennifer Hudson and Brie Larson and artists like Matchbox Twenty, Goo Goo Dolls, Third Eye Blind, Rise Against, The Offspring, Rob Thomas, No Doubt and Sum 41, with a focus on their digital strategies.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way? Any advice for those just starting out?
Digital marketing is something that is ever-changing so it’s imperative to continue to educate yourself on trends and best practices. In addition to staying up-to-date via relevant websites and podcasts, I would also recommend participating in online courses and certifications.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I were able to alter any decision made in the past, I would not have started my own company. I have an entrepreneurial work ethic but was horrible at running my own business. I’m much better working for someone else.
