Meet Geoffrey Bywater, Lucas Connelly, and Tim Chin of MakeOutMusic

Today we’d like to introduce you to Geoffrey Bywater, Lucas Connelly, and Tim Chin.

Geoffrey, Lucas, and Tim, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
It all began as a passion project to provide an outlet into music and live performances.

We have all been going to shows for years and felt a connection to the community that we wanted to share. The first stages started us off as more of a merchandise company to help artists with unique swag to promote their friends and colleagues, upcoming releases, or even just their favorite new music. This quickly turned into doing events to help with the release of the merchandise and then the full shift into focusing on events.

These days, our goal is to help out the music community by providing a safe and intimate space for artists to connect with each other and their fans. It is insanely rewarding to see all of these insanely talented people supporting each other and bringing in their new favorite up-and-comers. This community-centric foundation is what brings consistency because the people who know music best are the artists themselves.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Perhaps the biggest challenge has been juggling our day jobs with our passion projects.

We’ve all held a myriad of full time to part time jobs, making what extra money we could to put into this passion project. It hasn’t always been easy, but the end result and the opportunity to help bolster a burgeoning community has made the struggle worth it.

That’s not to say we’re by any means done or where we want to be, but we can certainly say we’re proud of the strides we’ve made in the short time we’ve been active.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about MakeOutMusic – what should we know?
What we’re best at is identifying groups and communities that work well together. The entire ethos of what we do is predicated on the synergy felt among a community.

With platforms like Soundcloud and Instagram, the community isn’t pinned down geographically, so we are regularly finding artists we love located around the world. This diversity gives us a great opportunity to invite them to Los Angeles to play their debut show in our city and sometimes even the country.

With that said, our pride and joy is providing a space for rising artists to make some connections, money, and (most importantly) friends!

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Our passion and determination are the main drivers for the success of our shows and our business.

We love the people we work with and try our best to create a working environment that they are eager to come back to time and time again. If the artists and the fans are happy, then we are doing our job right.
