Today we’d like to introduce you to Gayane Aramyan.
Gayane, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I knew I wanted to be a therapist when I took my first psychology class in 9th grade.
Although I had no idea what being a therapist entails, I knew that this was something I was interested in. In 12th grade, I went to my high school counselor and asked if I can volunteer somewhere to get started in the field. I got an interview with Anita Avedian, LMFT when I was 18 and began working as her assistant. I got my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Loyola Marymount University.
I continued my education at Pepperdine University and graduated with a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology with an Emphasis in Marriage & Family Therapy. I worked for Anita for seven years as her assistant, and as I graduated with my Masters, Anita officially hired me as her Associate Marriage & Family Therapist. Now, I work in Anita’s private practice and see clients in Sherman Oaks, Woodland Hills, and Glendale.
I primarily work with women in 20s and 30s with various presenting problems such as relationship issues, anxiety, grief, depression, trauma, and addiction. My passion is working with couples and relationship issues. I have been with my husband since I was 16 years old and my relationship has been a huge inspiration on why I continued to pursue this career path at such a young age.
Being together for ten years has taught me a lot about what it takes to have a strong relationship, and I am passionate about sharing that with my clients.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, and I think it’s never going to be smooth and easy. My career has just begun, and there is still so much ahead of me.
We’d love to hear more about your practice.
I primarily work with women in their 20s and 30s who are struggling with a variety of problems such as relationship issues, self-esteem, grief, anxiety, trauma, depression, and addiction. I am passionate about working with couples and relationship issues. My own 10-year relationship has inspired me to help couples or individuals who are feeling stuck to find their way to a happier life.
As a young therapist, my goal is to normalize therapy. I am active on Instagram and want to share as much information as possible with the public about therapy, mental health, and psychology. I also want my clients to get a better idea of who I am so they are able to connect with me. At the end of the day, we are all human.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I have been lucky to have Anita Avedian, LMFT as my mentor since I was 18 years old. She guided me through every step of my career, and because of this, I wouldn’t want anything to have been different!
