Meet Gail Landau of Catmosphere Laguna

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gail Landau.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Gail. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I practiced law as a litigator for 30 years but, first and “furrrmost” I am a lifelong feline enthusiast, lovingly referred to as a “Crazy Cat Lady.” I wanted to turn my rescue activism into a real full-time “purrsuit” and so, Catmosphere Laguna was born. I created Catmosphere Laguna to fuel my mission to save cats and kittens from euthanasia, increase feline adoptions, and provide improved lives and futures for homeless cats. Today, we’ve been achieving more than one adoption per week since we opened last year.

Has it been a smooth road?
As Orange County’s first cat cafe and lounge, you could imagine the logistical hurdles I had to jump through from City Hall, State and County Health Departments, and Animal Protection – all of which I did before we even opened. The daunting amount of advance planning, research, legal roadblocks, rules, regulations, codified law, and interviews I was faced with for this concept, amidst all the general challenges of starting a new business might have deterred others seeking to open a cat cafe, but not me. Finding the right location was a challenge, but after over a year of planning, it became clear that Laguna Beach was the perfect home for Catmosphere.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Catmosphere Laguna – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Catmosphere Laguna is Orange County’s first cat café and lounge. Located in the heart of Laguna Beach, Catmosphere Laguna is both a community café and a foster home for adoptable cats and kittens. While awaiting adoption, we provide a sanctuary for felines, giving them the freedom to roam, play, and interact with cat lovers in a living-room-like environment that grooms them for life in their forever home.

100% of adoption proceeds benefit the medical care, treatment, and well-being of Catmosphere Laguna’s cats and kittens through the Catmosphere Laguna Foundation. The café serves snacks, salads, and sweet & savory toasts, as well as coffee & tea. We’re one of the only cat cafes across the nation to also have a liquor license, so our patrons can also enjoy beer, wine, champagne, and our fabulous MEOWmosas by the glass! We have expanded our vegan menu now with hearty sandwiches made with our proprietary recipe rustic sourdough bread.

Future Plans: What are your plans for the future? What are you looking forward to or Planning for – any big changes?
In the coming year, we are focused on our participation with other rescues and non-profits in educating the public on why non-profits exist and just how we function. Because we were such a novel concept last year, Catmosphere Laguna Foundation (our non-profit), was not yet eligible for grants-in-aid made available to the rescue community by private funding and Rescue supporters.

This year we join with other established rescues in strengthening our financial base and presence such that we can continue on our mission and take in more cats and kittens and double our adoption rates, all for the benefit of our fabulous felines.
