Meet Gabriella Martinez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabriella Martinez.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It all started when my mom enrolled me in my first dance class at 3 years old. I could never stop moving and singing and this led me to auditions for school plays and musicals. I found my love for acting through performing in the theatre and this led me to LA where I landed my first manager. At 8 years old I began taking my first acting classes in LA and have not stopped. Since then I have been continuously auditioning and training in the city of angels while pursuing a college career with a passion in screenwriting. With recent credits such as a recurring guest star on Showtimes Penny Dreadful: City of Angels and my most recent on a new sketch comedy TBS special, I have been working and staying active in my creative endeavors.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
While pursuing a career or anything worthwhile there will inevitably be some bumps in the road. I can say I have had a relatively smooth ride, but I actually spent most of my time on the road. After moving from New York, where I was born, to Las Vegas, LA was just a 4-hour drive away. When I began meeting with agents and managers at 8 years old, I obviously couldn’t drive, so my mom drove me to LA every weekend to go to acting class. She drove me to all of my auditions and because of my busy schedule, I completed high school a year early and completely online. From car breakdowns to forgetting clothes to driving at 5 A.M. I would not trade these experiences for the world. They have shaped me into the person I am today. Now I can approach tricky situations with patience and laughter.

Tell us about your work – what should we know?
Personally, I have always loved expressing myself through acting, singing, dancing, and writing. Having these passions has allowed me to live a creative life. As an actor, I love digging deep within to create characters. It is a cathartic experience and it’s also healing. Being able to make reality into art is something I will always push for myself. In my own writing and through others I want the audience to feel and relate to the experience of the character.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Keeping an open and positive mindset will do more for you in your life than anything. Even while dealing with the worst situations and knowing that the world is completely turned around, I know the one thing I can do is keep myself present. When I am accountable for myself, my actions, and my work ethic I can recognize what I need to put energy into and what not. With these characteristics that I try my best to uphold I have been able to live the life that I want to and it is reflected back to me. If you want to see a positive change in your life, start with seeing a positive change in yourself.
