Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabriela Estrada.
Megavi is a tradition that has been carried by generations. Hat making has connected families in the form of an income, art, and culture. Gaby Estrada, was born in a rural town in Mexico where the form of income heavily relied upon hat or shoe making. She immigrated to the USA, as a single mother she took on various jobs to provide for her family. A trip back to Mexico reconnected her roots with the artisans in her family. Megavi was created to share the beautiful hats that each bring uniqueness and confidence on those who where it. A Megavi hat is more than an accessory but a product of hard-work and tradition from our neighbors and family.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Megavi, like many other new businesses, had the trouble of navigating in the unknown business world. The first problem came in the form of investments, specifically how, where and when to invest. The founder, a single-mother, was lost in the process of starting a business. Another form of troubles came from importing the product from a foreign country. The idea of this business came to life a year after it was thought. Once Megavi gained knowledge of the process of new business the next struggle was sales. Not knowing where or how to market. Social media platforms were difficult to grow. Luckily, Megavi has connected with other small business that had surpassed or were experiencing similar obstacles. The small business community, helped guide us, when we needed assistance.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Megavi story. Tell us more about the business.
Megavi on the surface specializes in hat-making. We know our hats or more than just a product. Each hat is made out of the knowledge and hard work passed down by generations. Our hats connect the worlds apart. It gives confidence and style to those who wear them and an income and platform for our rural community in Mexico. We are proud that both parties in this connection are happy with what they receive. Our Megavi family is happy with the quality of our hats and our artisans are proud to have their art worn.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
We have experienced both good and bad luck. However, we focus on the positive. Each experience has brought lessons and opportunities to learn or grow from. Megavi takes the good and bad luck and grows from it. We are proud to be the platform to share our culture, no bad luck can stop our tradition.
