Meet Emily Dubin Field of Field Fertility

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Dubin Field.

Emily, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am someone who deeply believes that when something happens to you, then who better than YOU to do something about it. I feel this is my life’s mission. When my dad tragically died in a plane crash, I participated in a grief support group and then went on to lead grief support groups and volunteer at grief camps to help others. I also started a board of young professionals for the organization I benefited from. The board was full of others who also had a loved one die. We could volunteer, raise funds and create awareness all in the memory of our loved one. When my doctor found a lump in my breast while I was in college, I did breast screening awareness campaigns across the sorority system. So, when my husband and I could not have a baby, I became a strong infertility advocate to help break the silence and create awareness for what 1 in 8 people suffer with. Infertility.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My husband, Gregg, and I started Field Fertility, www.fieldfertility.com, a legal and consulting business in February 2016 on the first year birthday of our miracle daughter. Our journey to our daughter was TOUGH, long, emotional, financially draining, sad and depressing. Three years of IVF, IUIs, surgeries, hundreds of vials of blood drawn, doctor appointments three times a week, acupuncture and MORE with nothing working led us to surrogacy. Our angel of a surrogate gave birth to our daughter. My husband and I felt a strong calling to give back and help others who struggled as we did. So, on February 11, 2016, we launched Field Fertility. My husband is the lawyer and I run the business. Gregg’s been a lawyer for over fifteen years and I’ve spent my career in nonprofit management, operations, marketing, and fundraising. In over three years, we have worked with/represented over 500 clients and hundreds of miracle babies have been born! Our business is mainly geared toward assisted reproduction, meaning surrogacy and egg/sperm/embryo donation. It’s been a great first few years in the business. We had to transition from individuals who went through infertility and surrogacy into professionals who now work in the industry. But, these two hats we wear, personal and professional, differentiate us in the industry. Our clients love our personal connection.

With starting Field Fertility, Gregg and I would be working together for the first time. We had a lot of people tell us to never work with your spouse or partner. We both said to one another that if at any point working together impacts our marriage negatively, then we would stop the business. We decided from day one that we needed very clear roles. We both run different aspects of the business which is I believe a key to our success. Gregg is the lawyer and does all the legal work, consults, contracts and more. And, I run the business and manage our operations, relationships, and marketing. We co-manage the finances as a checks and balances. Our work styles are very different, so that’s been an adjustment on learning how one another works and how to not get frustrated. We get to go to work conferences and meetings together, which we love. We are proving that it is possible to work with your spouse or partner and that it can be a wonderful thing.
