Meet Felix Navarro of The Juicy Leaf in Highland Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Felix Navarro.

Felix, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m from Texas, and moved out here 15 years ago with New Century Mtg. My degree is in Finance and I was working in the Corporate Credit division. My passion was always working with plants and when the financial industry collapsed I decided to follow my passion.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Self-employment is always a struggle but if you love what you do it’s much easier. As a small business owner, it’s tough because there are so many components to keep up with. Not just the day to day but also the regulations required by city and state. That aside I would say the two biggest struggles over the past ten years were trying to stay on Abbot Kinney in Venice.

The rents over time became crushing for someone that does not have investors or a wealthy family to lean on. My partner of 8 years also became addicted to meth and made life really difficult. I’ve actually never shared this with any publication so it’s a little tough and hard to talk about. It was a very difficult personal thing, but enough time has passed that I’m stronger about it and getting back on my feet.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Juicy Leaf – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My company specializes in succulent and plant arrangements. My idea came from the love of plants and the thought that so many times people go out and spend tons of money on flowers that die in 3 to 5 days. I’m not knocking on florist, I think flowers are absolutely beautiful I just feel that it’s very meaningful to give a gift that can last for many years. The thing I’m most proud about is the people that work and have worked by my side. I work and have worked with some extraordinary humans. All gifted and were the absolute most important part of who The Juicy Leaf is. This is what sets us apart from others. When you have people that care about what they do it makes the absolute difference in any organization.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans for the future are to maybe open a few more locations but ultimately, it’s just to be able to continue doing what we do. I genuinely love what I do, so I really just want to continue to grow and learn with my company.
