Today we’d like to introduce you to Felipe Fraga, JP Mourão, Luis Mascaro, and Isaias Elpes.
Felipe, JP, Luis, and Isaias, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
The band started in the summer of 2014 by jamming at the guitarist’s JP Mourão, who knew every individual separately. Introduced them all and the chemistry was instant. Pretty soon we started booking local gigs and then eventually touring the US.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all, very difficult indeed. Many schedule conflicts with different projects which makes it challenging to set up rehearsals and shows.
Farofa – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Farofa is a collective of Brazilian musicians from different backgrounds. We play instrumental music with lots of different influences from jazz to regional Brazilian styles, rock, classical and everything in between.
We are proud of how the band, in a collective manner, managed to achieve musical satisfaction in an organic fashion and to be able to express ourselves through instrumental music. Our vast musical backgrounds.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
We’ve had many moments but to mention a special one, our opening show for Chucho Valdez at Copley Symphony Hall in San Diego.
