Meet Fanny “Thera” Harisch of Thera X Productions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Fanny “Thera” Harisch.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Victor Hugo (a French essayist) once said: “Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent.” This quote describes music as a language universally being understood without translation. It states that music can say more than words, which is true. The strong emotions raised by music amplify the message delivered. My passion for music, which reaches back to my childhood sparked my sound career and laid down a foundation. Throughout my high school years, I attended quite a lot of diverse music classes such as: Instrumental (brass-trombone), Big Band, Marching Band, AP Music Theory, African Drums and Sound Tech. Absolutely had a great experience with these classes and many great memories. Over the past eight years, my quest has broadened and I began seeking out how music and first and foremost, how sound can beyond any doubt raise consciousness, shift perspective and even heal souls. My personal goal is to create immersive content, which draws the audience into it as if they would be a part of it. I do have a strong desire to share music and content, which evokes joy for others.

In 2013-2014, I was the FoH (Front of House) for my HS and in charge of some live events and the theater club. It was definitely an interesting but also challenging time since live mixing isn’t easy. Have you ever tried micing up multiple 2nd graders who can’t hold still for 5 seconds?! Let me tell you, this is super hard… but I made it easy in distracting the kids with something as simple as counting faders and knobs on the audio console. If that did not pan out (audio puns, gotta love them), I let them help me micing them up.

Back in 2016, I received my Recording Arts Bachelor of Science from Full Sail University (Winter Park, FL, USA). I am super thankful that I had the chance to attend and receive my diploma from Full Sail. Wouldn’t be where I am today without my FS experience. During my time at Full Sail, I had various opportunities and time to find myself (career-wise and interests). Absolutely enjoyed being in a palace with so many creatives in one spot! Definitely missing my campus time. Full Sail has many great resources, which helped me grow into the person I am today. Full Sail community became family. Shout-out to everyone, who was part and still is part of my adventures and ventures.

Since the beginning of 2017, I have worked on over 100 productions, ranging from social media campaign for a known fashion brand to huge TV shows. So far I had productions in: USA, Germany, Austria, Italy, and Hungary. I can’t wait to see where else it will take me gig wise. My experience goes from a typical small ENG crew (3 people: camera, sound, production) to full-blown cinema feature film crew with over 200 people on set.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My career wasn’t a smooth road at all! Everyone saying it was smooth for them is lying because life consists out of ups and downs, it’s a rollercoaster with many feelings which will hit you no matter what. The hardest struggle for me was finding work after my Recording Arts Bachelor of Science, which I received from Full Sail University back in September 2016. The first year was very tough and I had many times where I wanted to quit on my dream of doing sound full-time. I ended up collecting motivation and inspiration from other Full Sail Alumni and their stories, to boost and continue following after my dreams. Furthermore, I researched how to do acquisition and promotion for brands/companies, this knowledge was very insightful and helped me climb the career ladder. 2018 came around and I started to grow quick and got my hands on major TV show productions, from there on things got easier for me. I reached my dream of doing sound full-time, hard work does pay off!

Please tell us about Thera X Productions.
Thera X Productions was founded by myself back in January 2017. The Company provides multiple services in the film industry, most of the services are related to audio production and audio post-production. Specialization is Location Sound for visual content (Film and Television). I am most known for my network, get it done mentality, and detail-oriented plus organized work, always getting compliments on how neat my equipment is and how well I do my job. I am the most proud of how far I have come in my career in the past two and half years. Organization (love to detail & craft), international experience (USA, Germany, Austria, Italy, Hungary and South Korea) and my international network set me apart from others. Another factor that might set me apart from others is my age.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
One thing that I would had done differently is, if I had to start over is know earlier more about how to run a successful business (acquisition, promotion, writing invoices, writing quotes, contracts, etc.), I lacked the business side. Luckily I caught up on it, thanks to my dad and brother they help me understand the business side of a company. Another lesson I have learned early in my career the hard way was to get all your contracts and agreements in written form.
