Meet Michel Atlan of Eye of the Beholder Eyewear in West Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michel Atlan.

Michel, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Well, after having a very long career in the clothing manufacturing industry, I decided to stop being involved in that industry and give myself a chance to do something for myself and by myself. So the optical industry was introduced to me by a friend of mine who had a firm belief that if I made it in the clothing industry I could make it anywhere.

So I gave it a chance and started selling closeouts of discontinued collections of major eye wear brands.  I did that for about four years, during which time I had become a sales rep for eye wear companies giving me the opportunity  to gain a priceless experience.  This opportunity lead me to be known by various store owners which created an open field to a selling territory.

All this preliminary work delivered me the confidence to have enough understanding of the eye wear industry, and giving me the vision of selling my own brand of eye wear.

This is how I decided to start my own collection . I started by inscribing my logo name on already existing models of diverse shapes and colors of eyeglasses.  Those models were not specifically the results of my design but gave me the drive to experiment the pride of selling my name brand.

I quickly understood that I had to create a niche brand that was the perfect representation of the vintage trendy look with a yesteryear influence of the 50’s and 60’s.  This was where I baptized the Nouveau geek chic look from; giving birth to The Michel Atlan Eye Wear Collection.  Immediately thereafter I designed and developed six models in three different colors of which I introduced to some local stores, where I had done business with during my early stage in the industry.

As time went by, I rapidly saw that I had something unique going on which could take off nationwide.  Seeing the urgency to expand my collection and enjoy the pride of selling my name brand and most importantly having the belief and faith in doing what I knew best and how to do it well, I decided to travel nationwide to represent myself and my eye wear collection.  That was a beautiful and gratifying experience!  After six hard years of relentless and compromising work I had succeeded to have the most unique and well-respected eye wear collection.   Michel Atlan Eye Wear is currently being sold in 38 states in many prestigious specialty optical shops and optometrist offices. I am sincerely grateful to all the customers that believed in me and trusted me. I feel lucky that my hard work produced a fruitful result as I became a firm believer of… if you believe you can, then you are halfway there. The rest is to be passionate in what you do and trust yourself.  You will then succeed and see that the ceiling is the floor that you get to walk on, and sky is the limit!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The struggles for the most part were the challenges in the financial aspect as well the sacrifices made for my loved ones. Often times work took precedence in my life, a mere act that pulled me away from my personal life, and yet a quick rest would always relay me to recharge.  During the growth and development process of my company. the main goal was to always focus on successful results, because failure was never an option. I am a strong believer in life in the statement of “it is mind over matter”.

Eye of the Beholder Eye wear what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?

Eye of the beholder eye wear is a design firm that I started twelve years ago in the spring of 2008.  There was the outset of the unique Michel Atlan Eye Wear Collection.

The one particularity in my eye wear collection among others that I believe sets me apart from the competitors is the French names that I give my models.  These names  respectively identify with the era of design and the essence of my french culture.

I design, produce, and promote my collection of eye wear from which its remarkable overall sense of design reveals an innovative conception.  My intention here is to exhibit an impressive array of “out of the box” sexy and deeply appealing colored silhouettes supported by a second to none craftsmanship.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?

To be noticed outside of the United States and acquire an international recognition.

In the meantime I am steadily building a solid and fast growing selling network nationwide with my unique designed and inspired French eye wear collection.
