Meet Ever Arias of Ever’s Handcrafts in Koreatown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ever Arias.

Ever, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started this business shortly after going through a Spiritual Awakening. Experimenting with Reiki and Tarot healing techniques; it was a means to recover from relapses due to complications with Multiple Sclerosis. This experience has brought me good insights on how to treat yourself through using a holistic approach to reconnecting with your body, mind, and spirit. Before this awakening, I was at a crossroads with my illness hindering me to continue to pursue my career as a Camera Assistant and be physically present at my 9-5 job. The “Aha” moment came when I started to question products I have used to alleviate my constant nerve and muscle pain. I turned to herbalism and started to craft infusions and salves made with herbs such as Arnica, Eucalyptus, and Rosemary just how my grandma used to take care of me and her family back in her homeland of El Salvador. This prompts me to push this crafting idea even further and experiment with bathing rituals starting with soaps, tea soaks, and essential oils. With encouragement from family and spirit, I set up an Etsy storefront and started to sell my first line of soaps and tea soaks. Coming from a filmmaking background, I used simple product photography techniques to achieve striking and detailed images to connect to my audience. It’s been a spellbound experience.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all! (Laughs.) Looking at it from a financial standpoint, I had a choice to commit to this venture or stay at my job thinking about what if’s, you know? I jumped at this opportunity without prior knowledge and blindly trust the process. It was a huge learning curve to understand the logistics to properly set up your business. In the first weeks, I set myself a deadline to put my product line out, research on the ingredients, fragrances, glassware, design, legalities, everything. Managing your business is tricky because you only had yourself for moral support. Eventually, you feel burned out and start to question your purpose. I think what kept me going was trusting myself, trust the unknown, using tarot and meditation for guidance; to realign my goals and simplify my ideas.

Ever’s Handcrafts – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Ever’s Handcrafts is a handmade vegan body care line. It’s heavily influenced by my spiritual journey, the use of specific herbs and oils associated with the elements, planets, and symbols. Small batched to ensure the best quality of ingredients sourced locally and crafted with intention. My line products range from tea soaks, sugar scrubs, to luxurious body butters to nourish and soften the skin. I am best known for my body butter, ‘Sol’ made with a butter combo of mango and shea, turmeric, and a gentle fragrance of ginger and lemongrass essential oils. Made simple to adorn yourself after a shower or a bath. Affordability is key. I do my best to provide a well-made product that won’t break your wallet. What I find rewarding is when I sell my products at pop-up events especially serving the Latinx community; that’s where I can express my process in crafting, my Salvadoran upbringing, inspirations, and hearing feedback from the public. I hold much gratitude to each person purchasing my product; as they take it home to have a special moment of self-care.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Firstly, being able to craft this business from the ground up is a huge achievement in itself. Using my platform to connect with my community by raise awareness of eco-friendly and holistic approaches to self-care. Secondly, having the opportunity to sell my products in a store! I’ve been blessed to co-sign with two different community-based wellness stores that specialize in occult goods for the BIPOC community and all open-minded seekers.
