Meet Eva Recinos of LACMA in Mid-Wilshire

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eva Recinos.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m a social media manager and freelance writer with a love for art. I studied art history as my minor in undergrad and quickly realized I wanted to keep learning more. So, I moved to San Francisco for a couple of years to get my master’s in art history. In the meantime, I worked jobs as a freelance writer and social media specialist — always keeping in mind my passion for and interest in art. Now, I work as the social media manager at LACMA, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. When I’m not creating content for the museum’s social accounts, I am writing about artists and creators. I also write memoir and personal essays.

Has it been a smooth road?
I’ve always had to battle imposter syndrome. It’s hard to work in social media and writing because both often get immediate feedback, whether positive or negative. But, I learned to trust my instincts and I’ve been lucky to have some amazing managers and colleagues.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the LACMA story. Tell us more about the business.
I love talking to people about art that I’m genuinely interested in. I strive to shed light on art in a way that is accessible and fun.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Things are always changing in the social media world. But, I hope that it changes in a way that benefits creators and artists. There are more and more digital communities being created that highlight stories and people often left out of the mainstream narrative. When it comes to writing, I think digital will continue to play a role and so will social media. I hope that technology can continue to expand the possibilities for storytelling.
