Meet Esther Sutanto of Esther Sutanto Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Esther Sutanto.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Esther. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My passion for art and photography started when I was first introduced to the dark room. That is when I first started experimenting.

I attended Lasalle College of the Arts in Singapore, graduated with a Degree in Fine arts. I explored and had FUN but I did not know what I was doing or where this would direct me ! Participated in numerous art exhibitions, film productions as a still photographer, working with different art faculties and artists. . I was relatively satisfied to acquire a set of foundations and skills, but I was not fulfilled.

I decided to move to America, put everything on hold to break loose from my familiar routine. I have always sought after something different, exciting, I want to be inspired. I decided to go back to school, attended Art Center College of Design. I experimented as much as I could, with different dimensions and techniques in my photography. I played with movement, water, folding paper, made sculptures out of wax, etc, etc. I do not want to feel intimidated by anything pushing the medium to the very extreme, playing with the different mediums, experimenting with different techniques that I am not familiar with, breaking all the different rules and creating an outwork that is out of the norm, poetic yet mysterious.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been an entertaining journey. Definitely one the hardest obstacles to go through as of now. Ive made many mistakes, learnt it the hard way, but at the same time learning and gaining experience from everyone that I’ve met along the way.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Esther Sutanto Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a freelance photographer and I specialize in fashion fine art. I experiment a lot with light and movements in my photography. I play with different mediums, experiment with different techniques that I am not familiar with, breaking all the different rules and creating an outwork that is out of the norm, poetic yet mysterious.

I love to collaborate with artists, to be able to work together and learn from each other.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Plan is to work with another medium. I am now exploring 3D motion graphic. Want to add another element to my photography.

To be able to create something different and exiting in my journey.
