Meet Esther Lee of Mystic Rebel in Koreatown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Esther Lee.

Esther, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was always crazy about jewelry, gemstones and crystals ever since I was a little girl. One of my favorite things to do was to watch home shopping networks and gem auctions. I would literally obsess and drool over the sparkly jewelry I saw on tv and was completely hypnotized by the way the sales-women would market them. I thought they had the coolest job in the whole world and I wanted to be just like them… I guess that’s when the first seed got planted.

Of course when I got older, I had to integrate into “real life” …. and real-life for me was a strict household ran by Asian immigrant parents. There was a lot of pressure to study really hard, get into a really good school, and then get a really good 9 to 5 white collar job. Long story short, I completely rebelled against my parents and actually dropped out of college. As a matter of act, my heart has always rebelled against anything that it did not align with. This applies to things like organized religion, trends, mainstream music, societal norms & the expectations from people around me. I’m definitely the black sheep in my family (and society lol).

I experienced a lot of darkness in my life and was lost for a really long time. When I was 24, I hit my lowest rock bottom which forced me to surrender to a higher power. And that was the beginning of the spiritual path that I’m still on today. And it was on this path where I found tremendous healing and complete transformation. I fell in love with yoga, meditation, astrology, tarot, ancient wisdom, and last but not least… the healing properties of gems! When I discovered that gems are actual living things that have the power to heal people… my mind literally exploded. I thought to myself “it all makes sense! No wonder why I had such an obsession since I was little!”

I put two and two together: Jewelry + Healing gems = Healing gemstone jewelry. It was a mind-blowing epiphany because I felt like I was truly connecting to my inner child. I just knew I had to go for it. Plus, my adult dream is to help heal others. I learned how to make jewelry through tutorials online and by my own intuition. My jewelry is inspired by my spiritual journey and my rebel heart, hence the name “Mystic rebel”.

I was called to create a demi-fine jewelry brand that is dainty & minimalistic with a boho twist because I want to provide high-quality unique everyday pieces at accessible prices. My goal is to empower, heal & to also bring out the inner Goddess in every women when wearing Mystic Rebel Jewelry.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It definitely hasn’t been smooth, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I find a lesson in every struggle and I’ve learned to embrace the journey.

The first thing that I learned was that marketing was the most important thing for my success. No matter how beautiful and how affordable my jewelry is, it won’t sell without the right marketing.

Another struggle was discovering how many things I needed to do besides the making of the jewelry. Such as photography, learning how to make a website, finding models for my jewelry, finding the right packaging, social media, finding events to sell at, learning the wholesale game, etc…. I feel like it never ends!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Mystic Rebel is a demi-fine jewelry brand that was created from inspirations received from the divine feminine, mysticism, ancient wisdom and the healing energy of stones. I’m able to keep my prices much lower than the mainstream market because there is no middle man or co-workers… it’s just me. I use high-quality materials such as sterling silver, 14k gold filled and genuine gemstones. I have a lot of repeat customers and they often comment on how the jewelry is non-tarnishable, even in water. Each piece is made by me with intention, cleansed with sage and charged with the energy of the full moon.

The thing that really sets me apart is my astrology package. If you spend $200 or more, you also get a free astrology reading by me. My astrology readings alone are usually $150, so this is a steal! I’ve been practicing astrology for nine years and have helped many people with this ancient tool. You can find the testimonials on my Instagram!

What were you like growing up?
Lol… man. I was definitely a wild child! I was always very creative however and had a need to express myself. You could always find me writing poetry, writing songs, painting, scrapbooking, etc. I was really emotional and needed an outlet for it… otherwise, I felt like I was gonna go crazy. I guess some things never change, haha.

Pricing:

  • Average price $45-$65
  • Spend $200 or more and get a free astrology reading!
