Today we’d like to introduce you to Emoni Matthews.
Emoni, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Being from Virginia, the entertainment world doesn’t always seem so tangible. However, having the support of the strong entrepreneurial women in my family, I was taught at an early age there is no such thing as a glass ceiling. Music has always been a part of my life. From Going to a performing arts school and being president of our student-driven record label to Founding the first student Driven record label of an HBCU, Entertainment Alliance, to Interning in LA at Paramount Pictures and Hunnypot Unlimited Publishing it was clear my path would be Music Business. I didn’t find my niche in the Music Synchronization world until after my internships with my now mentors John Anderson and Jeff Gray,Being taken under their wings introduced me to my new passion of Pitching and placing music in TV, Films and other content whether as a creative Sync Licensing person or my new role at House Studios (HMG) , Head of Music Supervision and Creative Licensing. My Current projects include Music Supervision for a Documentary Called “In The Water” Executive produced by Kevin Durant, Victor Oladipo and Quinn Cook. My team has also Curated the Inspired by Soundtrack for this documentary.
Has it been a smooth road?
No one’s path is ever 100% smooth. I believe challenges make you stronger and help you grow in your life and career. First immediate challenge you have in this industry is proving your knowledge and ear for music. The second challenge is build a true genuine network. For me, this is the fun part. I’m all about building inter-personable relationships with colleagues and clients. I’m grateful for the challenges and my path. It has allowed me to be apart of Larger companies like Sony ATV, help pioneer and build successful production music libraries at indie labels such as Rostrum Records and now currently work on amazing projects as a music Supervisor with a great team. Each opportunity taught me lessons that I apply to my current position at HMG.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the House Studios story. Tell us more about the business.
House Studios is an Impact -Driven Multi Media Company that was created to ignite and inspire a unified commitment to building a more humane world by liberating, empowering and celebrating creativity. I work under the House Music Group which is a subsidiary. House Music Group creates a seamless process for licensing and sync. We have a catalog of Indie Artists in multiple genres and we are an artist-centric company with an unwavering mission to Protect and Collect! HMG Licensing and Administration is passionately committed to partnering with artists, getting their music heard and providing a transparent platform where everyone is paid on time. HMG gives artists that opportunity-to experience a financially sustainable career. As a company we take pride in being the true liaison between opportunity and hard-working artists. As an employee, I am most proud of the fact that I work for a company that feeds my passion, my giving spirit and my purpose as a human.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In the next 5-10 years, I see HMG being the new Synch Standard. It’s becoming a time where artists are getting more educated on synchronization and demanding fair compensation for their hard work and artistry. I believe HMG embeds in our creatives the trust and partnership they need to have a team fully represent their work in the Tv/FIlm music space.
